Job summary

Pheasants Forever, Inc and Quail Forever is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to lead strategic HR initiatives from the White Bear Lake HQ. The role combines strategic planning with hands-on execution across benefits, leave management, and policy deployment in a hybrid environment.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of HR experience, working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now, and the ability to navigate complex state laws while supporting a nationwide workforce.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • Knowledge of compensation plans and structures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and benefits processing.
  • Knowledge of multiple state family leave and sick laws, COBRA, and OSHA tracking.
  • Familiar with SOC codes and affirmative action plans.
  • Strong understanding of employment laws at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Define and optimize scalable, human-centered HR processes across business units.
  • Monitor external market trends and advise on impact to employees.
  • Support policy implementation and acknowledgement.
  • Manage benefits enrollment, open enrollment, and monthly invoicing with ADP.
  • Address employee questions and manage FMLA and leaves.
  • Coordinate affirmative action plans and OSHA tracking; communicate updates to teams.

What You’ll Do

Strategic HR Support

  • Help define and optimize scalable, human-centered HR processes across your business units.
  • Understand external trends in the marketplace and make recommendations on how those could affect internal employees.
  • Provide support for policy implementation and acknowledgement.
Team Support
  • Maintain benefit enrollment between ADP and all benefit providers including monthly invoicing.
  • Supports the benefits open enrollment processing through ADP.
  • Address employee questions and concerns.
  • Manage the organization’s FMLA and leave policies.
  • Coordinates the affirmative action plan and OSHA tracking annually.
  • Collaborate to ensure HR related information, updates, policies and changes are effectively communicated to the PF & QF team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • Knowledge of compensation plans and structures.
  • Able to display confidentiality.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and ADP Comprehensive Services.
  • Knowledge of multiple state family leave and sick laws.
  • Knowledge of COBRA.
  • Knowledge of SOC codes and state and federal affirmative action plans.
  • Familiar with current federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Applies sound judgment and creative problem-solving skills to complex problems and organizational challenges.
  • Strong ability and experience supervising, coaching, mentoring, and directing others; demonstrated skills in managing people and tasks.
  • Experience advising senior business leaders across distributed teams or regional locations.
  • Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build trust across leadership styles.
  • Strong tactical, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and excited by a “build while driving” environment.
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of conservation and related industry, with a passion for wildlife conservation and outdoors, is preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Operating a computer or other office devices for the majority of the workday
  • May occasionally need to move packages up to 10 pounds such as office supplies or equipment
  • Must be able to communicate with others in person, over the phone, and in writing
  • Must be able to understand and effectively exchange accurate information with others such as coworkers, customers, and vendors
  • Must be able to read and interpret various electronic and written documents
Travel

This position requires minimal travel in the U.S. Potential travel to the annual Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic, as well as perhaps 1-2 team meetings per year.

Education and Experience Preferred

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience required. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience with payroll and ADP Workforce Now and would enjoy supporting employees in the field as well as at headquarters to contribute to the achievement of our conservation objectives and to retain employees.

Salary and Benefits

$60,000 to $70,000 (commensurate with skill set and experience) with annual performance-based raises, plus benefits include:

  • Health, vision, dental and more insurance coverage plans are available.
  • 401(k) Retirement plan with an employer match of up to 5%.
  • Student Loan Assistance program of up to $200/month for eligible employees.
  • Paid Time Off accrued at 15 days (120 hours) per year for new employees (increasing after 3 years).
  • Bereavement/Family/Sick Leave of 6 days (48 hours) per year; available on first day with approval from supervisor.
  • 13 Paid holidays.
