Based in Issaquah, WA, with operations in Everett, WA, Village Theatre is a leading producer of musical theatre in the Pacific Northwest. Producing entertaining, quality productions since 1979, Village Theatre has grown into one of the region’s best-attended theatres. Through its Village Originals program, Village Theatre is nationally recognized for its contribution to the development of new musicals, having supported the creation of over 180 new works to date. ABOUT THE POSITION

The HR Generalist oversees human resources functions while fostering a supportive, equitable, and legally compliant workplace. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations and HR strategy across a variety of staff groups, including full and part-time administrative staff, artists, musicians, teaching artists, and union employees.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with a passion for people-centered work and a strong understanding of nonprofit and/or performing arts environments.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Human Resources Strategy & Operations
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local labor laws (including Washington State-specific regulations)
  • Manage and execute full employee lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and offboarding
  • Administer compensation and benefits, and manage relationships with third-party platforms (e.g. Paycom)
  • Maintain accurate employee records and oversee HRIS systems
  • Employee and Labor Relations: Serve as a key resource and trusted advisor to employees and managers for questions, concerns, and support for conflict resolution
  • Facilitate timely, effective resolution of employee concerns while maintaining confidentiality and compliance
  • Support and guide managers on performance management, documentation, and team communication
  • Partner with leadership to foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture
  • Union experience a plus: Collaborate with leadership on union relations, including administration of collective bargaining agreements and handling of grievances
  • Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure organizational compliance with employment laws, workplace safety standards, and HR best practices. File and manage submission of related data and filings
  • Maintain up-to-date employee handbook and organizational policies
  • Lead HR training on key topics for employees
  • Create and maintain processes for employee documentation

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field
  • 4+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally within a nonprofit, arts, or mission-driven organization
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR practices, especially in Washington State
  • Experience working with unionized employees and/or collective bargaining agreements preferred
  • Demonstrated strength in employee relations, communication, and conflict resolution
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Paycom)
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaborative leadership

COMPENSATION

Hourly rate for this position is $31.50/hr
