City of Apache Junction is seeking a seasoned HR leader to head the human resources department, guiding recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training and engagement. You will direct the department's budget, policy development, and strategic initiatives to support city needs.
The role emphasizes implementing citywide HR programs, supervising staff, and advising the Deputy City Manager on trends and issues, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
(Anticipated Hiring Range: $163,154 - $171,414/ annually)
Positions assigned to this class provide leadership and management of the human resources department, which includes recruitment and selection, employee retention, employee relations, job classification and compensation, training and workforce development, employee benefits, wellness and employee engagement. This position ensures the administrative and operational human resources services are responsive to city needs. The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks may vary over time depending on the city’s needs.
Graduation from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field and seven (7) years full-time paid professional experience in responsible administrative or managerial positions to include three (3) years supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates who are selected for appointment may be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, medical, polygraph and/or psychological evaluation. Candidates who are appointed will be required to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Arizona or meet the transportation needs of the position.
Work is performed in a standard office environment. May require frequent sitting and continuous operation of a personal computer. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
