Job summary

Hermanson Company is seeking an HR Coordinator to provide administrative support to the HR department and the on-site Richmond project. This field-based role supports onboarding, HR systems, employee relations, and day-to-day HR tasks for a large mechanical construction site with both union and non-union employees.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's in HR or related field with at least two years of HR or admin experience; SHRM-CP or HRCI is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years HR or Admin experience.
  • SHRM-CP or HRCI credential is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical and customer service functions for HR department and project site leadership.
  • Assists HR Generalists with onboarding, including processing new hire paperwork, I-9s.
  • Processes new hire background checks and drug screens.
  • Creating and maintaining employee files.
  • Maintains and updates EEO data spreadsheets.
  • Performs verifications of employment.
  • Processes terminations and conducts exit interviews.
  • Assists with scheduling interviews and drafting offer letters.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Role

The Human Resources Coordinator provides administrative support to the Human Resources department and to the on-site construction project in Richmond, VA. This is a very large, complex, fast-paced mechanical construction site with union & non-union employees. This role provides hands‑on HR support in employee onboarding, HR systems, employee relations and general HR support to the on-site project leaders. This position requires strong attention to detail, customer service, sound judgment & strong collaboration.

The Environment

This position is based on an active construction job site. The HR Coordinator will work out of a field trailer and spend time supporting employees and leaders in a live project environment. You can expect a hands‑on setting that may include dust, noise, and changing weather conditions. Work boots and appropriate job‑site attire are required, and it’s not uncommon to get a little dirty. For someone who enjoys being on the ground close to the work, building relationships in the field, and seeing projects come to life, this role offers a unique and rewarding HR experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs clerical & customer service functions for the HR department & project site leadership.
  • Assists HR Generalists with new hire onboarding, including processing new hire paperwork, I-9s completion.

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000. (The compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience).

  • Familiarity with construction and/or union workforce is a plus.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • At least two-years related HR or Admin experience required.
  • SHRM-CP or HRCI credential is a plus.
