Job summary

Alta Equipment Group in Michigan and NW Ohio seeks a full-time Human Resources Business Partner to support multiple sites with the home office in New Hudson, MI. You will partner with senior leadership and branch management to drive strategic HR initiatives and effective people practices.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of HR experience, strong communication and leadership skills, and willingness to travel (15–20%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related discipline highly preferred.
  • 2+ years of progressive HR experience is a must.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and friendly demeanor.
  • Experience with labor relations is a plus.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an HR generalist (excluding payroll and benefits).
  • Leverage relationship-building to navigate opportunities/concerns from team members, management, and senior leadership.
  • Manage labor relations for 2 Union bargaining agreements.
  • Develop and build relationships at colleges and trade schools.
  • Handle employee relations issues including investigations.
  • Coordinate and deliver HR trainings on compliance, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and legal requirements.
  • Travel ~15–20% to regional branches quarterly.

Responsibilities

Our Construction Equipment Group is seeking a full-time Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support our Midwest multi-site operation in Michigan and NW Ohio with the home office in our New Hudson, MI location and will report to the VP of HR Construction Equipment Group.

As the HRBP, you will be involved in all aspects of the operation and serve as a business partner for the senior leadership and branch management teams. This role is not a "paper pushing" type of job; it is a highly engaged and strategic role with active involvement in our regional leadership teams. The successful HR Business Partner candidate will be a highly energetic, friendly, and outgoing individual who brings solutions to problems and is not afraid to speak the truth or "go against the grain".

The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as an HR generalist (excluding payroll and benefits).
  • Leverage strong relationship building skills to navigate business opportunities/ideas/concerns from team members, management, and senior leadership.
  • Manage labor relations for 2 Union collective bargaining agreements.
  • Develop and build relationships at colleges and trade schools.
  • Handle all employee relations issues including investigations.
  • Coordinate and deliver training sessions on various HR-related topics, including compliance, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that align with best practices and legal regulations.
  • Will travel (approximately 15-20%) to all regional branches on a quarterly basis.
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related discipline highly preferred.
  • 2+ years of progressive HR experience is a must.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and friendly demeanor.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Previous labor relations experience is a plus.
  • Must have a passion for HR.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Absolutely MUST be great with people!
  • Must be comfortable speaking with large groups of employees or presenting to the management team.
  • Understand HR policies and programs, benefit plans, communicates and reinforces organization values.
  • 2+ years of HRIS experience.
  • Must have valid driver's license, clean driving record and automobile insurance.
  • Computer programs: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; UltiPro.
  • Language skills: High: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical skills: Intermediate - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning ability: High - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will sit; Frequently will stand, walk, climb or balance, talk/hear; Occasionally will use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Vision: No special vision requirements.
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift up to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift 26 to 50 pounds
  • Work Environment: Regularly will work near moving mechanical parts; Occasionally will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
