Job description

Human Physiology Systems Advisor

The Opportunity: To achieve an organization’s mission, leaders need strong team members who can create processes, communicate requirements, and develop innovative solutions throughout the execution of the mission. Whether completing an immediate task, recognizing a process gap, recommending a solution, or flexing to support an emerging requirement, our clients need someone who can help manage operations while managing responses to external inquiries in a timely manner. That is why we need an experienced Human Physiology Systems Advisor like you to provide technical expertise and project development for emerging opportunities within healthcare. As part of our team, you’ll serve as a strategic technical advisor to the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), helping conceptualize, create, and execute advanced government-funded research and development (R&D) programs to accelerate better health outcomes for everyone. You’ll work with world-class scientists and engineers to support the development of high-impact solutions to society’s most challenging health problems. You’ll leverage your technical expertise to provide strategic assessments of new technologies in support to senior ARPA-H decision-makers. You’ll maintain responsibility for producing and presenting findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients on the feasibility and potential impact of future research programs, assisting with the management of current programs, and facilitating commercialization of successfully developed technologies. You’ll serve as a Human Physiology Systems Advisor, helping clients to develop stakeholder management strategies, establish new business processes, and complete research and analysis to determine viable solutions. You will be responsible for managing incoming requirements, facilitating engagements within offices and across the agency, and being readily available to shift your focus to fulfill emerging client requests. Your attention to detail, flexibility, communication skills, understanding of the client’s mission, and problem-solving will enable the mission’s success.

What You’ll Work On:
  • Provide technical and strategic support across a portfolio of programs related to tissue and organoid manufacturing, tissue and organ preservation, ex vivo organ perfusion and diagnostics, and other translational technologies relevant to tissue and organ recovery, preservation, and transplantation.
  • Evaluate technologies in the context of clinical and operational realities, including donor tissue and organ recovery, preservation logistics, perfusion-enabled assessment or intervention, and transplant-center workflow.
  • Conduct landscape analyses and technical diligence on emerging capabilities, vendors, performers, and scientific trends, and advise on the scientific plausibility, translational feasibility, manufacturability, and adoption potential of proposed approaches.
  • Provide insight into how innovations may intersect with the broader transplant ecosystem, including organ procurement organizations, transplant centers, and applicable federal regulators and stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant scientific, clinical, regulatory, and market developments.
  • Review and assess technical proposals, performer submissions, milestones, deliverables, and program risks.
  • Provide feedback, organize reviewer comments, and draft recommendations, project summaries, and presentation materials.
  • Help identify subject matter experts, potential performers, test or evaluation partners, and transition stakeholders across academia, industry, clinical practice, and government environments.
  • Assist with program management functions, including preparing for technical meetings, conducting site visits, consolidating performer progress, identifying schedule risks, and creating briefing materials.
You Have:
  • Experience synthesizing complex scientific information into concise written and visual products for decision support.
  • Experience in organ preservation, ex vivo organ perfusion and diagnostics, transplant biology, regenerative medicine, or translational bioengineering.
  • Experience supporting complex R&D efforts involving academic, clinical, or industrial stakeholders.
  • Ability to critically evaluate technical data, experimental plans, and development pathways.
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Master’s degree in Physiology, Systems Biology, Bioengineering, Tissue Engineering, or Regenerative Medicine and 10+ years of experience in transplantation, organ preservation, transplant surgery, or transplant medicine, or Doctorate degree and 7+ years of experience in transplantation, organ preservation, transplant surgery, or transplant medicine.
Nice If You Have:
  • Experience in transplantation, including clinical, translational, or operational work related to donor organ recovery, preservation, allocation, or implantation.
  • Experience working in or with the HRSA, OPTN or UNOS, organ procurement organizations (OPOs), transplant centers, tissue banks, or organ recovery networks or programs involving cross-sector coordination.
  • Experience with the practical and policy dimensions of the U.S. transplant ecosystem.
  • Experience with organ perfusion technologies for assessment, preservation, repair, or treatment of donor organs.
  • Experience with translational and commercialization challenges, including manufacturability, quality systems, reimbursement context, regulatory considerations, and clinical adoption barriers.
  • Possession of strong team-oriented and interpersonal skills.
