Job summary

Rimkus Consulting Group seeks a PhD-level human factors expert to manage diverse forensic projects, including field investigations, data acquisition, and expert reporting.

You will conduct site inspections, review literature, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, while preparing affidavits and providing testimony as needed. Travel and client interaction are integral to the role.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in cognitive, experimental, or industrial psychology; neuroscience; industrial & systems engineering; or human factors.
• At least 5 years of work experience in human factors litigation consulting.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Board Certification from BCPE and/or Professional Engineer License preferred.
• Experience with perception‑response time, nighttime visibility, driver detection distances, and ADAS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow a legal consulting practice.
• Complete site inspections.
• Meet with colleagues, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
• Prepare expert reports and affidavits.
• Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
• Provide deposition and trial testimony.
• Develop and maintain records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.

Overview

The Rimkus Forensic Human Factors group provides services related to evaluating safety, human performance, risk perception, and decision-making associated with human interaction with products, environments, and processes. The position will require managing a range of consulting projects that may involve working with teams on multi-disciplinary projects; conducting field investigations and physical testing, including data acquisition; conducting research to obtain technical data; and reviewing scientific literature and standards.

Required Experience, Education, and Certifications

• Required: Ph.D. in Cognitive, Experimental, or Industrial Psychology; Neuroscience; Industrial & Systems Engineering; or Human Factors.
• Required: 5+ years of work experience in human factors litigation consulting. This includes experience conducting inspections, writing reports, and testifying in depositions and trials.
• Required: Eligible to work in the United States.
• Preferred: Board Certification from BCPE and/or Professional Engineer License.
• Preferred: Experience with perception-response time, nighttime visibility, driver detection distances, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The employee must frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, crouch, hear, and talk (must be able to speak and communicate clearly with others). Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime - There will be periods when overtime is required, which the employee will need to comply with to meet the demands of the position.

Travel - 25-50% at most, overnight and field.
