At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate, define, and deliver the payload interface control document (ICD)
  • Define and communicate the payload design environments (launch and landing loads, thermal, vibration and shock, EMI/EMC, contamination), and lead integrated analyses with the provider, including coupled loads, thermal, and mass properties
  • Define the payload integration milestones between contract kickoff and launch working with the Mission Manager
  • Manage contract deliverables to and from the payload provider and to and from the NASA customer for the payload working with the Mission Manager
  • Own interface verification: build the verification matrix, plan fit checks and pathfinder activities, and close out interface verification before shipment
  • Oversee definition of the payload operations concept and integrate into the mission flight plan, including landing, surface offload, and payload commissioning
  • Lead payload safety integration, including hazard analyses and safety reviews with the provider and NASA, and flow payload requirements into MK2 and New Glenn safety processes
  • Plan payload delivery, receiving, ground processing, and launch-site integration, including transport, handling, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), vehicle closeout, facilities, and import logistics for foreign-built flight hardware
  • undefined
  • Work with Blue's Trade Compliance team to make sure every exchange of technical data and hardware with the international provider stays within approved export authorizations (for example, TAAs)
  • Lead periodic reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), and recurring integration meetings with the payload provider and NASA, managing the exchange of technical information to advance the payload provider’s design.
  • Identify, track, and burn down payload integration risks, and report integration status to MK2 and program leadership
Qualifications:
  • Experience performing payload integration on a spacecraft or launch vehicle
  • Experience with the Systems Engineering lifecycle (requirements, interface definition, verification, validation)
  • Experience managing requirements and interface baselines, including negotiating ICDs
  • Experience leading technical trades that balance performance, cost, and schedule
  • Working knowledge of spaceflight environments and integrated analyses (loads, thermal, EMI/EMC)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-organizational teams and external partners without direct reporting authority
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of integrity.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or an equivalent related field
  • 8 or more years of experience
Desired:
  • Experience working with foreign government agencies or companies
  • Experience working under ITAR/EAR export authorizations (TAAs, technical data exchange controls)
  • Experience with human-rated or crewed-system payloads and NASA safety review processes
  • Experience with payload ground processing and launch-site integration
  • Experience with spacecraft or lunar lander development programs
  • Experience with NASA programs
