Job summary

United Airlines in Chicago is seeking an experienced aircraft maintenance professional to join our Technical Operations team. You will coordinate maintenance activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and support on-time performance across stations and flights.

Reporting to the Manager or Shift Manager, you will liaise with Maintenance Control, Aircraft Routing, Dispatch, and Flight Crews to manage discrepancies, delays, and planned maintenance, while upholding safety and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, FAA A&P certificate, and 5 years in aircraft maintenance.
  • Contract and regulatory experience is required; ability to meet performance objectives.
  • Preferred leadership experience in a large maintenance organization with a unionized workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the station Technical Operations department professionally with other departments.
  • Receive and coordinate the recovery of maintenance discrepancies initiated by flight crews.
  • Notify and communicate status of aircraft out of service or maintenance delays.
  • Coordinate and track planned maintenance for thru flights.
  • Initiate and update TOC and AMIS logs for aircraft with maintenance activity.
  • Coordinate station supplier requirements for maintenance activities.
  • Identify and communicate maintenance troubleshooting procedures as required.
  • Ensure delay reports are entered and delay data are analyzed.

Job overview and responsibilities

Reporting to Manager or Shift Manager, represent the station Technical Operations department in a professional manner while interacting and coordinating with other departments in the Station Operations Center, Aircraft Routing, Aircraft Dispatch, and Flight Crews.

  • Receive and coordinate the recovery of maintenance discrepancies initiated by inbound and outbound flight crews Coordinate and track the recovery of scheduled deferred items
  • Notify and communicate the status of aircraft that are out of service or on a maintenance delay to Maintenance Control and Local Operations
  • Coordinate and track planned maintenance efforts for thru flights
  • Initiate and update TOC (Technical Operations Computer System) and AMIS logs on all aircraft that are out of service, in a planned hold or have significant maintenance activities on going
  • Coordinate station supplier requirements that are required to support maintenance activities
  • Identify and communicate maintenance troubleshooting and repair procedures as required
  • Ensure delay reports are entered and compile delay data for tracking and analysis
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • FAA A&P Certificate
  • 5 years in the aircraft maintenance industry
  • Contract and regulatory experience
  • Meets or exceeds operational performance goals including on-time performance, maintenance check span, productivity & safety objectives
  • Meets or exceeds business plan objectives
  • Identifies the need for change and / or improvement and executes the same involving the appropriate people and level of resources as needed
  • Builds and maintains professional and productive work environment for labor groups and management teams
  • Effectively communicates with employees of all levels aligning the team for success
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations and applicable FAA regulations
  • Setting up ongoing procedures to collect and review information needed to manage an organization or ongoing activities within it
  • Identifying and understanding issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Aviation Management, Engineering, or related field
  • 2 years in a leadership role within a large maintenance organization including a unionized labor workforce. A proven successful track record
  • Strong cultural awareness to build and maintain professional relationships on a global basis

The base pay range for this role is $131,456.70 to $160,669.30.

The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
