Job summary

HOLT CAT is seeking a senior truck technician in Texas to diagnose, repair, and recondition engines and related equipment on trucks and trailers. The role requires extensive experience and independent work, with mentorship duties for junior technicians.

You will maintain safety standards, perform road tests, and document service reports, parts, and labor. The ideal candidate has CDL Class A or B, ASE certification, and the ability to read manuals and operate diagnostic tools.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • CDL Class A or B is required for operation of trucks and trailers.
  • ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck preferred; ongoing safety training required.
  • AC and Brake System certifications are required.
  • Ability to model and teach Holt's VBL culture and complete required training.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses engine malfunctions and failures with minimal supervision.
  • Performs detailed engine and related equipment repairs on trucks and trailers.
  • Disassembles, inspects, selects parts, and reassembles to factory specs.
  • Provides quality control inspections including road testing and documentation.
  • Uses diagnostic computers and software to diagnose engines and report progress to customers.

Job description

Job Summary

Diagnoses, repairs, reconditions, and adjusts key systems and components of trucks and related equipment. Senior‑level position – generally has more than six years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A level three technician has a broad knowledge of the field's standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is self‑starting and requires minimal supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses complex engine malfunctions and failures with direction and minimum supervision.
  • Performs detailed engine and related equipment repairs on trucks and trailers with direction and minimum supervision.
  • Disassembles, inspects, determines parts required, and reassembles to factory specifications within TRGs.
  • Provides quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks to include road testing.
  • Uses computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprograming engines.
  • Completes documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition and returns.
  • Interprets and utilizes information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletins.
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs.
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance.
  • Acts as a mentor and coach to lower level Technicians.
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training.
  • Consistently maintains an average rework of less than 0.5%.
  • Ensures a positive average variance consistently.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to meet all requirements as outlined in Leveling Description Guide to include; Basic Requirements, Electrical System, Engine Systems, and Rear Differential.
  • Ability to meet all technical and performance requirements for a level one and level two technician.
  • Extensive knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and electronic systems diagnostic tooling.
  • Operation and control skills of vehicle fleet.

  • Ability to read, write, and understand information.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to complete HOLT's VBL Classes, model HOLT's VBL Culture, and successfully apply the tools (Learn).
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience required.
  • CDL – Class A or B required.
  • ASE – Medium/Heavy Truck Certification four or more preferred.
  • AC Certification Required.
  • Brake System Certification Required.
  • Has met HDSI requirements for preceding Technician levels; Ability to model and teach Holt's VBL Culture.
  • On‑going Safety Training required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None.
Travel
  • Up to 5% travel or overnight stays.
  • Up to 5% travel to other stores that require help during times of heavy workloads may be expected.
Additional Requirements
  • Must own and maintain the necessary tools to efficiently perform the job.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
  • Significant amount of time spent standing.
  • Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity.
  • Communication with customers and constant communication with co‑workers.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Be able to manoeuvre safely and work underneath equipment.
  • Lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lb.
  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, and balancing.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
Work Environment
  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Frequently works in an enclosed vehicle or equipment.
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
  • Exposure to high noise levels.
  • Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment.
  • Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
