Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a High Speed Supervisory Technician in the Washington, DC area. You will plan, lead, and direct teams to safely inspect, test, and maintain High Speed Trainsets in accordance with FRA, FDA, and Amtrak Tier II guidelines.

The role requires leadership, troubleshooting skills, and experience with asset management systems. A strong safety focus, read- ness to comply with regulations, and ability to mentor staff are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Experience with computerized asset/work management systems (WMS, SAP, ARROW).
  • Knowledge of safety program methodologies and their application.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance facility/yard operations for inspection, testing and maintenance of High Speed Trainsets.
  • Perform inspection, testing and maintenance per 49 CFR and Amtrak Tier II standards.
  • Plan, organize and maintain production schedules within budget.
  • Review work orders and assign/planned maintenance tasks.
  • Record inspection results in WMS with detailed condition notes and measurements.
  • Coordinate daily activities and safety, material, and mechanical issues across departments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to employees as needed.
  • Maintain required qualifications and certifications for the role.
  • Conduct safety meetings and implement safety and service programs.
  • Maintain proper use of tools and equipment.

Job Summary

The High Speed Supervisory Technician is responsible for planning, leading, and directing employees in safe performance of their jobs in connection with cleaning, servicing, inspecting, testing and maintaining of High Speed Trainsets in accordance with FRA, FDA, and Amtrak Tier II guidelines and standards.

Essential Functions
  • Supervises maintenance facility/yard operations related to assigned equipment inspection, testing and maintenance programs and coordinates the movement of High Speed Trainsets in order to maximize equipment availability and reliability.
  • Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak Tier II standards on High Speed Trainset equipment.
  • Plans, organizes, and maintains production schedules as applicable while operating within budget.
  • Reviews work orders for assigned equipment, including planned corrective and preventive maintenance, and plans/assigns work.
  • Ensures all inspection and work order results are properly recorded in WMS with attention to conditions found, performance measurements taken/recorded, symptoms noted, and inspections completed and/or deferred.
  • Communicates and coordinates daily activities, mechanical issues, safety issues, material issues, etc. with appropriate departments and mechanical management.
  • Provides constructive feedback and counsels and motivates employees relative to work performance; provides technical guidance and assistance to employees as needed.
  • Maintains all required qualifications and certifications in order to perform inspections and supervise work according to state and federal requirements.
  • Conducts safety meetings and implements inspection and mechanical service related safety plans and programs.
  • Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated experience working on machinery in an industrial, marine, railroad, or plant environment.
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a computerized asset management and/or work management system.
  • Some knowledge and experience related to safety program methodology and its application.
  • Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certification applicable to assigned job.
  • Leadership, decision making, and team building skills.
  • Organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of equipment/system specifications and power tool operations.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of various mechanical craft duties.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some supervisory experience in an operating environment.
  • Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment.
  • Knowledge of accepted industry quality standards and railroad quality standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with WMS, SAP, ARROW, and other Amtrak automated programs.
  • Some college or technical school and/or journeyman qualification.
Communications and Interpersonal Skills

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The hourly range is $41.83 – $49.21 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment).
