Base pay range

$100,000.00/yr - $138,000.00/yr

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, perform, and maintain safety activities in assigned locations. Drive safety vision, mission, and culture within the site locations.
  • Effectively communicate and implement safety procedures and programs to drive results within the region. Promote actions that reduce employee risk by planning and executing safety strategies. Promote a behavioral based safety environment.
  • Feed data to support established key performance indicators.
  • Investigate all incidents to determine root cause and identify corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to the development and communicate Safety Alerts with the organization based upon incident investigations. Compile reports detailing performance against targets at the local level.
  • Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends for the region, propose and recommend remedial action. Facilitate all incidents and near‑misses to be investigated, train employees on how to prepare report of findings, including recommendations to prevent recurrence and implement approved course of action.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of HSE‑related regulatory requirements.
  • Support education for assigned locations in alignment with incident‑free culture and assume personal responsibility for safe work practices in all operations.
  • Conduct regulatory health, safety, and environmental awareness compliance meetings and training for staff at assigned locations.
  • Support local management by working with the Legal Department, 3rd Party and Safety Leaders to mitigate OSHA citations and assist in general liability claims litigation.
  • Review and complete detailed written reports on safety and environmental audits as required.
  • Communicate and train staff on the Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for assigned locations.
  • Facilitate and/or serve as an active participant within local union/port authority meetings (Joint Safety Committee and Accident Review Boards, etc.) to continually promote and strengthen the safety culture improvement.
  • Perform daily interaction with managers, staff, and auditors. Periodic interaction with local emergency response groups and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee the management of the Regional Safety Incentive program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are in line with corporate directives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, with a concentration in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related field. Extensive experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Professional safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of occupational health, safety, and environmental management in positions of responsibility, preferably in the marine and logistical environment or similar field.
  • Contribute to implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a successful multi‑site occupational health, safety, and environmental program.
  • Familiarity with established maritime/general safety programs, as well as ISO 9001/14001/45001 certifications.
  • Experience with local state and federal regulators such as United States Coast Guard (USCG) conducting marine facility inspections.
  • Familiarity with relevant Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and other regulatory bodies applicable to the organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of Hazardous Material Handling in a transportation and maritime environment. Knowledge of general computer applications (Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality in matters involving medical and/or personnel issues and concerns.
  • Detail oriented and able to multi‑task in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Knowledge of the WA area longshore union chapters.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
  • Required job duties may be partially performed in a climate‑controlled office environment.
  • Exposure to computer screens.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Will be required to be on‑call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on an as‑needed basis.
  • Will be required to regularly travel to other regional locations (up to 60%).
