Job summary

Intertek is seeking a responsible HSE Coordinator for our Building & Construction team in York, PA. You will develop and implement safety policies, train staff, and lead the local safety program to prevent incidents and injuries.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required; 2+ years related work experience preferred.
  • Must be proactive about safety and spend significant time in facility.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate the local safety strategy and ensure adoption at the site.
  • Create and implement local safety policies to prevent accidents and hazards.
  • Provide safety training to employees and retraining as needed.
  • Conduct daily facility walkthroughs to identify violations and take corrective action.
  • Inspect safety equipment and coordinate repairs/replacements.
  • Manage inventory of safety supplies and document incidents and investigations.

What are we looking for?

The HSE Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the company-wide safety strategy at the local level through the development, implementation and maintenance of all safety policies, procedures and processes for an assigned location.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $65k-$70k. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the company-wide safety strategy and communicate and ensure adoption of the strategy at the local level.
  • Develop and implement local safety-related policies, procedures and processes to prevent workplace accidents, injuries and hazards.
  • Provide communication and training to employees regarding safety-related policies, procedures, processes and personal protective equipment. Provide re-training as needed, including with new employees.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the laboratories to identify any possible policy/procedure/process violations and implement immediate corrective action.
  • Conduct inspections of safety related equipment and coordinate repairs/replacement as needed.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of all safety related supplies.
  • Respond to all safety hazards, near misses, accidents, and injuries by documenting the incident, conducting a thorough investigation, determining root cause analysis and implementing corrective action. Report all information to the Safety Manager.
  • Conduct review and analysis of accidents and injuries to determine trends and recommend changes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead the local safety committee and attend company-wide safety meetings.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate internal and external audits of HSE programs.
  • Perform other work as required.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma or GED and 2+ years directly related work experience. A combination of directly relevant education, experience and training will be taken into consideration.
  • Must have a proactive approach to safety and be willing to spend a significant amount of time in the facility versus at the desk.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal written and presentation formats

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in directly related, Heath, Safety or Environment field.
  • Experience with enterprise wide issue management software.
  • Experience with quality management systems.
  • Experience with auditing.
