Job summary

Graphic Packaging International is seeking a Plant Safety/Environmental Health & Safety Leader responsible for developing and implementing plant safety, health, and environmental programs in support of corporate guidelines and regulatory requirements.

The role reports to the Plant Manager and is part of the Plant Leadership Team, with duties including audits, training, incident investigations, and coordination with OSHA and regulators. Strong leadership and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in safety or environmental science, engineering or related field recommended.
  • 3-7 years coordinating EHS programs.
  • 3 years in industrial safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient with MS Office and databases.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety, health, and environmental expertise to plant staff.
  • Develop and implement safety and health programs to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Review safety policies annually for compliance.
  • Coordinate environmental programs meeting federal/state/local regulations.
  • Conduct safety meetings and audits.
  • Maintain SQF Practitioner certification.

Purpose:

This positionis responsible forthe development and implementation of plant safety/health programs and plant environmental compliance programs in support of corporate-wide guidelines, standards, and applicable regulations. Provide on-site leadership,guidanceandassistanceto plant staff in achieving superior safety/health and environmental performance. This position reports to the Plant Manager and is a member of the Plant Leadership Team.

Functions - the following are key roles of the position, but are not inclusive;
  • Provide safety/health and environmentalexpertiseto plant staff, including consulting with and providing guidance to the Plant Manager and management team.
  • Develop, implement andmanagersafety and health programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal,stateand local safety & health standards and in support of Graphic Packaging’s safety and health guidelines and minimum safety and health guidelines.
  • Review all safety polices annually for compliance with current regulations.
  • Develop and implement environmental programs to assure compliance with applicable federal,stateand local regulations and in support of Graphic Packaging’s environmental guidelines including but not limited to air permitting, hazardous and non-hazardous wastes collection and disposal, NPDES and storm water management.
  • Develop, implement, and track employee safety and plant environmental training in support of written programs.
  • Perform periodic safety and environmental audits. Develop recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop, track, analyze, and communicate plant safety statistics and plant environmental reporting and statistics including but not limited to hazardous waste generator status, Title V air emissions, SARA 312 and 313 usage and reporting requirements, etc.
  • Manage environmental and safety reporting systems for incident reporting, monthlycomplianceand audits.
  • DOT/RCRA Certified to manage Hazardous Waste.
  • Complete all necessary environmental reporting to state and local agencies
  • Coordinate plant involvement with OSHA and regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Organize workload so that applicable regulatory guidelines are met.
  • Continue to increase professional environmental knowledge through reading, training, conference attendance, etc. Develop a network of key environmental contacts in regulatory agencies, tradeorganizationsand consulting firms.
  • Provide support for incident investigations, casemanagelocal workers compensation and return to work program.
  • Conduct Safety Meetings to review facility safety trends and action Items.
  • Maintain Certification as a Safe Quality Food (SQF) Practitionerin order tohelpmaintainfacility SQF Status.
  • Perform Functional Job Risk Assessments to identify potential areas for risk of injury.
  • Complete Safety Training for all new hire and temporary employees.
Job Requirements:
  • Good understanding of federal,stateand local safety and workers’ compensation laws, workers’ compensationclaimfiling and cost containment strategies. BS in safety or environmental science,engineeringor related field recommended.
  • Experience (3-7 years) in coordinating,managingand developing Environmental Health and Safety programs.
  • Experience (3 years) in industrial safety, healthprotectionand regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office and database programs.
  • Self-starter, good people skills, strong personal leadership, organizational skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of federal,stateand local environmental laws and regulations.

  • Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related toproductionof Safe Quality Foods.
  • Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures.
  • Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) asrequired.
  • Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.

Pay Range: $78,450.00-$104,600.00
