Job summary

TeachIowa Central Comm School District in Elkader, Iowa seeks a part-time HS Assistant Boys Wrestling Coach to help student-athletes develop skills, discipline, and sportsmanship. The role reports to the Building Principal/Activities Director and is open immediately, with salary and year to be determined by the Board.

Qualifications

• Credentials as required by state law.
• Working familiarity and/or experience with wrestling.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in a particular sport using appropriate coaching strategies and techniques.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
• Transmits to athletes and student body the understanding of sportsmanship, control, and dedication by example.
• Provides leadership and knowledge in method, techniques, strategies, and instruction.
• Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
• Works with activities director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
• Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
• Oversees safety conditions of the facility.
• Enforces performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.
• Arranges transportation as needed.
• Maintains attendance forms, insurance records and end-of-year reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Activities Director

TERM: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with Board policy.

JOB GOAL: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coaches individual participants in a particular sport using appropriate coaching strategies and techniques that can be used to improve the athlete and the activity.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. Provides standards and procedures in writing to the students.
• Transmits to his/her athletes (and the entire student body) the understanding of sportsmanship, control, and dedication by example.
• Possesses professional skills and knowledge to provide leadership and cooperation in the areas of method, techniques, strategies, and instruction.
• Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
• Works closely with the activities director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
• Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
• Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
• Enforces performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the assigned sport.
• Arranges transportation as needed in a timely manner.
• Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, end of the year report and other paperwork as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
