POSITION SUMMARY

The High School Coach is responsible for leading and developing a successful athletic program that aligns with the mission, values, and expectations of Greenwood Community School Corporation. The coach will promote athletic excellence, sportsmanship, character development, leadership, and academic success while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student-athletes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate the assigned athletic program in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and expectations of Greenwood Community School Corporation, the Athletic Department, and the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive program that supports the growth and success of student-athletes at both the high school and feeder levels.
  • Provide leadership, instruction, and supervision to student-athletes during practices, competitions, team activities, and travel.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, character development, and responsible citizenship among student-athletes.
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and appropriate supervision of all student-athletes from reporting time until departure from school grounds and school-sponsored activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Collaborate effectively with coaches of other sports programs and school personnel to support the overall student-athlete experience.
  • Maintain compliance with all school corporation policies, athletic department procedures, conference regulations, and IHSAA rules.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, families, administration, and coaching staff regarding program expectations and student-athlete development.
  • Encourage academic achievement and support student-athletes in maintaining high standards both in the classroom and in competition.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of long-term program goals and strategies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Athletic Director, or administration.

COMPENSATION

Compensation will be provided in accordance with the Greenwood Community School Corporation ECA Classified Pay Scale.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with high school-aged student-athletes preferred.
  • Previous coaching and/or competitive experience in the assigned sport preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Commitment to character development, sportsmanship, and student success.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, administrators, and school personnel.
  • Commitment to developing and sustaining a successful athletic program and feeder system.
  • Must meet all district employment requirements, including background checks and any required coaching certifications.
  • Ability to begin coaching responsibilities upon Board approval.
BENEFITS ELIGIBILITY

This position is classified as an Extra-Curricular Activity (ECA) assignment and is compensated according to the Greenwood Community School Corporation ECA Compensation Schedule. As a supplemental position, it is not eligible for district-sponsored employee benefit programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Requires frequent after-school, evening, weekend, and seasonal commitments.
  • Ability to supervise and actively participate in practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Travel may be required for away contests, tournaments, and program-related events.
