Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • HVAC Journeyman and EPA Section 608 certifications required.
  • 10 years’ experience in heating/cooling operations and related plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read manuals and technical bulletins; work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to adapt to new codes and safety standards.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; valid driver’s license; US citizenship.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work at height.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily supervision and guidance to HVAC technicians and related trades.
  • Plan, schedule, and assign work tasks based on priorities and contract needs.
  • Inspect facilities to detect problems and recommend repairs or maintenance.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure safety standards, regulations, and building codes are followed.
  • Coordinate with facility managers and vendors to support operations.
  • Assist budgeting and procurement of parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Train team members on safety and technical practices.
  • Inspect work quality and support contract performance objectives.
  • Operate or support government-owned vehicles and equipment as needed.

Job description

The Heating and Air (HRAC) Supervisor is responsible for managing and supporting all HVAC maintenance and repair activities for government facilities. This role coordinates a team of HRAC technicians, HRAC Instrumentation & Control Technicians, Plumber/Pipefitters, Electricians, MVO Light Filter Changers ensures work quality and compliance, and oversees the safe operation, repair, and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems essential to government operations. The supervisor ensures equipment reliability, efficient service delivery, and adherence to contractual performance standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily supervision, guidance, and support to HVAC technicians, HRAC Instrumentation Control Technician, Plumber/Pipefitters, Electricians, MVO Light Filter Changers, performing inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and system installations.
  • Plan, schedule, and assign work tasks based on operational priorities and contract requirements.
  • Frequently inspects facilities to proactively detect potential problems and recommend the necessary repair or maintenance.
  • Oversee and maintain preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards, local and federal regulations, building codes, and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate with government facility managers, project leads, and other trades to support seamless facility operations.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting material needs, and managing purchasing requests for parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Train team members on safety procedures, technical skills, and operational best practices.
  • Occasionally inspect the quality of performed maintenance work.
  • Work closely with vendors, service providers and contractors to protect the interests of the contract, DPW, and Redstone Arsenal.
  • Help with development of maintenance procedures and proactive maintenance programs utilizing predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Responds to tenant complaints and needs through both personal contact and work order systems as needed.
  • Ability operate Government or AFO-owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Assists and supports other departments, staff and/or trade groups as needed or directed.
  • Performs other related work as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • HVAC Journeyman & US EPA Section 608 Technician Certification
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in heating and cooling operations including HVAC, Heating/Boiler Plants systems and associated plumbing/pipe systems maintenance.
  • Ability to use mandatory manuals, technical bulletins, or Manufactures Operating Manuals. Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • U.S.Citizenship.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and work in high places.
