Job summary

Goodwill in California is seeking an HR leader to oversee the daily operations of the Human Resources Department, ensuring compliance with employment laws and organizational policies.

You will partner with managers, drive staff development, handle investigations, payroll compliance, and stay current with state/federal regulations to support a fair and productive workplace. This role requires at least 5 years HR experience and a bachelor's degree; PHR/SPHR certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: HR management training; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years HR experience; supervisory role.
• Computer Skills: MS Office; internet; email.
• Certificates & Licenses: California driver’s license; PHR/SPHR preferred.
• Other: Background check; knowledge of employment laws and payroll.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the HR Department, ensuring compliance with employment laws.
• Investigate harassment, discrimination, and retaliation claims; provide resolution or actions.
• Advise managers on employment practices in line with Goodwill’s culture and values.
• Support staff development and training and assist curriculum development with HR Director.
• Oversee unemployment claims and liaise with the third-party administrator; testify as needed.
• Provide leadership and development opportunities to direct reports; stay current on laws.
