Silgan Containers in Kenosha, WI is seeking an HR Generalist to support our 24/7 manufacturing plant. You will strengthen employee relations, drive engagement, manage onboarding, HR administration, and payroll support on the plant floor.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years HR experience in manufacturing or 7+ years as HR Generalist.
• Bachelor’s or associate degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred.
• Strong employee relations and engagement skills; visible plant-floor presence required.

Responsibilities

• Employee relations and engagement: build relationships with hourly employees and leaders, engage across shifts, handle questions and investigations, and support culture initiatives.
• Recruiting and onboarding: recruit, interview, hire hourly manufacturing staff using Workday, coordinate pre-employment checks, lead new-hire onboarding.
• HR administration and compliance: maintain files, track FMLA and leaves, ensure legal postings, assist with benefits and training.
• Payroll and plant support: process labor hours and attendance in Kronos, assist with purchasing and communications with plant leadership.

Our Kenosha plant operates 24/7, and we’re looking for an HR Generalist who believes great HR happens through strong relationships and a visible presence on the plant floor. You’ll work closely with employees and plant leadership across shifts while supporting employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, HR administration, and engagement initiatives.

What You Will Do:

As our HR Generalist, you’ll support the day-to-day HR needs of our manufacturing plant, with a strong focus on building relationships with employees and plant leadership.

Employee Relations and Engagement

• Build strong working relationships with hourly employees, supervisors, and plant leadership.
• Maintain a regular presence on the manufacturing floor and engage with employees across shifts.
• Serve as a trusted HR resource for employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues.
• Conduct employee investigations and support supervisors and plant management with disciplinary matters.
• Help create a positive workplace culture through employee engagement initiatives and events.
• Consistently administer plant policies, the Employee Handbook, and corporate policies.

Recruiting and Onboarding

• Recruit, interview, and hire hourly manufacturing employees using the Workday Applicant Tracking System.
• Coordinate pre-employment requirements, including drug testing, background checks, and physicals.
• Lead new-hire orientation and onboarding to help employees start successfully.

HR Administration and Compliance

• Maintain accurate employee files, applicant records, and HR documentation.
• Administer and track FMLA, sick leave, and long-term disability.
• Support compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws.
• Maintain required employment and legal postings.
• Assist with benefits administration and provide HR-related training as needed.

Payroll and Plant Support

• Process daily labor hours, shift trades, and vacation time using Kronos and reconcile information against production schedules.
• Verify attendance, leaves of absence, and pay adjustments.
• Support purchasing orders, invoices, and other accounts payable activities using OnBase.
• Maintain consistent communication with plant leadership across all shifts and crews as well as Corporate Human Resources.

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field strongly preferred.
• 2 years of HR experience in a manufacturing environment OR 7+ years of HR Generalist experience.
• Strong employee relations and employee engagement skills.
• A hands-on HR approach with the ability and willingness to maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor.
• Flexibility to interact with employees working different shifts within our 24/7 manufacturing operation.
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential employee information professionally.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Workday and Kronos is a plus.
