Job description

The Department of Human Resources is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner to join our team and provide comprehensive HR support to multiple departments, including the Agency of Transportation (including the Department of Motor Vehicles), Transportation Board, and Agency of Education. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional or HR Generalist looking to apply a broad range of human resources knowledge in a business partner role.

This position provides a broad range of HR services, including performance management, supervisory coaching, labor relations, recruitment and onboarding, position management, classification, workers’ compensation, and reasonable accommodation requests. The HR Business Partner provides guidance and support to employees and supervisors on employee relations and performance matters, ensuring consistency with Personnel Policies and Procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements. The position also performs significant systems and data management work within VTHR.

The successful candidate will be organized, adaptable, and able to effectively prioritize a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment. The ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a team is essential. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, a willingness to learn, and well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are key to success in this role.

The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Most work is performed using HR systems, databases, and Microsoft Office 365 applications, with the remainder involving direct interaction with employees and supervisors, collaboration with colleagues, and participation in meetings. Occasional work outside of the regular schedule may be required.

The Department currently supports a hybrid telework environment. Telework requests will be considered, with some in-person work at our Barre office required.

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered in dealing with employee grievances, union representatives, or members of management.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years or more of experience in the field of human resources that includes employee relations or labor relations.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.

Supervisory experience.
