Job summary

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, UT, is hiring a journeyman Hardscape and Flooring Carpenter to support Headquarters Facilities. You will perform maintenance and construction ensuring dignity, time, quality, and cost standards.

Ideal candidates have four+ years in carpentry and flooring, with strong hardscape skills, able to work with diverse materials, and able to work from 6:00am shifts. Salary ranges: $28–$31 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman carpenter with at least four years' experience in carpentry, concrete, flooring, cabinetry, or related fields.
• Pass all required safety trainings and certifications.
• Able to work independently or in a team without constant supervision.
• Valid driver's license; may require DOT certification.

Responsibilities

• Work with construction materials including door hardware, hardwoods, gypsum board, framing, laminates, concrete, ceilings, and floor tiles.
• Use work order tracking software and time entry systems for daily tasks.
• Estimate materials needed per job or project.
• Use, maintain, and repair hand tools and shop equipment.
• Complete required safety training and certifications.
• Collaborate with contractors as needed.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by Management.
• Hardscape and Flooring: install, maintain, and repair flooring materials and address water leaks.

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to "seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion." This position is a journeyman role that exists to support Headquarters Facilities by providing and maintaining the physical accommodations for Church Departments and Priesthood Leaders. The expectation is to provide preventative and corrective maintenance, and construction for these facilities, to portray an image of dignity, integrity, and respectability with a justifiable standard of time, quality, and cost. Performs all phases of journeyman level carpentry work. Should specialize in Hardscape and Flooring work, concrete forming and finishing, pavers, retaining walls, hardwood, laminate, LVP, LVT, carpet squares, etc.
Pay range for this position will be: $28.00 - $31.00/hr depending on experience and education.
Shifts available for this position, starting each day at 6:00am:
4 - 10's Monday - Thursday/Tuesday - Friday
5 - 8's Monday - Friday

Responsibilities

• Works with materials used in construction such as door hardware, soft and hard woods, gypsum board, wood and metal framing, plastic laminates and solid surface, concrete, suspended ceilings, floor tiles, stone, etc.
• Uses work order tracking software and time entry/personal development software in conjunction with daily work.
• Estimate materials needed for a specific job or project.
• Uses, maintains, and repairs hand tools, portable machines, general construction and shop equipment.
• Performs all required safety training and certifications applicable to assigned area of work.
• Works with contractors as needed.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by Management.
• Hardscape and Flooring: Installs, maintains, and repairs all flooring including carpet, concrete, tile, VCT, epoxy coatings, stone, etc. Responsible for repairing water leaks.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Requires journeyman level Carpenter in conjunction with a minimum of four years' experience in carpentry, concrete, flooring, cabinetry, furniture, modular furniture installation, or other related fields.
• Pass all required safety and equipment certifications and trainings.
• Able to work in a professional manner with others as well as alone without constant supervision.
• Maintains a positive attitude with the ability to work as a team.
• Basic computer skills.
• Valid driver's license. May be required to become DOT certified.
• Able to understand English for general communication, video training, building security, and safety.
• Capable of understanding instructions both verbally and in writing and able to listen and ask clarifying questions as needed.
• Good vision for precision work as well as good eye-hand-foot coordination and stable, controlled hand movement.
• Able to safely work from ladders, scaffolds and mechanical lifts and other high locations for extended periods of time.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Can independently lift objects weighing as much as 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Able to team lift and position objects weighing as much as 100 pounds on a regular basis.
• Can stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, push, and pull for extended periods of time.
• Requires at least 20/40 vision with or without corrective lenses and not less than 120 degrees combined horizontal peripheral vision.

Preferred

• Multi trade background preferred.
