Job summary

The National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) in Berkeley is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join a 24/7 operations team maintaining scalable HPC and data services for DOE science programs.

You will monitor systems, triage alerts, automate responses, strengthen monitoring pipelines, and collaborate with cross‑functional groups to ensure high availability and security for a broad user base of researchers.

Qualifications

• Experience in or willingness to work within a 24/7 onsite team environment.
• Strong Linux shell proficiency and command-line work.
• Experience with scripting or programming in languages such as C, C++, Python, Java or Perl.

Responsibilities

• Monitor alerts from computer systems, storage, network, and data center facilities.
• Triages issues, coordinates with on-call staff, and documents incidents in tickets.
• Develop and maintain monitoring tools and automation to improve response times.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to coordinate center-wide maintenance and reliability efforts.
