Job summary

Harvard Medical School seeks an HPC Engineer to implement, operate, and manage scalable compute environments for computational research. You’ll provision clusters, manage Slurm workloads, and ensure secure, compliant platforms supporting researchers across HMS.

The role emphasizes hands-on execution, reliability, and collaboration with a team to evolve HPC workflows and infrastructure. Strong Linux, scripting, and containerization skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years of post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in CS/engineering or related field.
• Experience managing Linux-based systems in research/academic settings.

Responsibilities

• Provision, configure, and decommission HPC compute clusters.
• Tune and administer workload schedulers (Slurm) for efficient utilization.
• Maintain secure, compliant compute environments (e.g., NIST 800-171).
• Integrate user accounts and identity management with institutional systems.
• Maintain and optimize user-facing software environments and containers.
• Develop and support scripts, automation, and tools for cluster ops.
• Monitor health, respond to alerts, and support compliance reporting.
