Job summary

The Schwartz Men’s Shelter is seeking a Housing Specialist to ensure housing readiness for clients by delivering trainings and developing permanent housing options in both public and private sectors. The role involves assessing eligibility, coordinating with real estate and public housing offices, and tracking client housing outcomes.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or 60 college credits in Human Services or high school diploma with 1 year related experience.
• Knowledge of federal guidelines for public and private low-income housing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Clean and valid driver’s license a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing eligibility assessments of all applicable clients.
• Develop linkages with real estate companies and Office of Public Housing.
• Maintain and update listings of permanent affordable housing.
• Develop and facilitate client workshops and individual sessions on skills to acquire and maintain permanent housing.
• Track placements and conduct follow up of clients placed into permanent housing.

The Schwartz Men’sShelter

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of related experience in housing placement services for low-income and/or homeless population.
• Knowledge of federal guidelines for public and private low-income housing required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Clean and valid driver’s license a plus.

Housing Specialist Principal Responsibilities:

• Conduct housing eligibility assessments of all applicable clients.
