Job summary

The City of San Diego is seeking a Deputy Director of Housing Policy & Environmental Analysis to lead the Housing Policy section within the Planning Department. The role focuses on accelerating housing production, addressing zoning inequities, and streamlining development approvals in a hybrid in-office/telework arrangement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field and supervisory experience.
• Four years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
• Six years of full-time professional experience in city planning or housing policy.
• Combination of education and experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations and supervise personnel within Housing Policy section.
• Manage high-complexity items on the Work Program.
• Communicate and strategize with Department management on housing and zoning policies.
• Develop and implement project schedules and workflows within the section.
• Collaborate with the Department's management team and staff on projects.
• Complete and conduct staff performance plans/evaluations.
• Coordinate with other City Departments, government agencies, and stakeholders.
• Represent the Department at Planning Commission and City Council hearings.
