Job summary

Paycom is seeking a House Monitor/Cook in Jackson, MS. You will prepare meals, monitor shelter residents, and maintain kitchen records according to policy. The role requires cooking for large groups, safety compliance, and strong attention to cleanliness.

Evenings and weekends, casual/on-call duties, with on-site work at ALM-Jackson Ms Corps. Salary is hourly and based on experience, with potential for additional on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• 1 year experience cooking for large groups required.
• 1 year experience in security or social service work preferred.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Accept and process residents; monitor safety and logs.
• Plan, cook, and serve nutritious meals; ensure safety and sanitation.
• Check clients in; manage intake cards and rosters.
• Maintain records; balance cash; ensure rooms and fire equipment in order.

Schedule/Hours: Weekday evenings and/or weekends; casual/on call as needed

Key Responsibilities:

• Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order; Plans, prepares, cooks and serves nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.
• Checks clients into the shelter; prepares and monitors client intake cards; determines if client has been prepaid by sponsor or credit; prepares resident roster and maintains resident property records.
• Monitors the activities of the shelter residents ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift.
• Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists; prepares, tallies, and balances monies with receipts; drops the money in the safe. Ensure that all rooms are in proper order before and after arrival of residents; checks fire equipment and ensures proper working order.
• Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.
• Ensure that enough food is prepared based on the number of people to be served and that food is prepared in a timely manner as scheduled.
• Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures all kitchen personnel practice proper personal hygiene.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
• Work requires performance of duties in social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible.
• Ability to cook, taste, and smell food
