The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York seeks a Housing Staff Attorney to represent households at risk of homelessness in Fulton, Montgomery, and Schoharie counties. Based in our Amsterdam Office, you will prevent evictions, secure benefits, and coordinate with partners to expand housing opportunities.

You will practice trauma-informed, client-centered lawyering, travel across the service area, and draft referrals, pleadings, and advocacy materials.

Qualificações

• Must be licensed to practice law in NYS or be eligible for admission.
• Demonstrate commitment to helping low-income and disadvantaged clients access housing and services.
• Travel across the service area with a valid NY driver's license.
• Spanish or Chinese language skills are a plus.
• Strong communication, listening, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsabilidades

• Provide legal representation to households at risk of homelessness and prevent evictions.
• Advocate for access to mainstream benefits and coordinate with partner agencies.
• Protect tenants' rights and housing stability through litigation and negotiation.
• Engage in outreach, community education, and systemic advocacy.
• Collaborate with LASNNY housing attorneys and paralegals to improve access to services.
