Role Description

The Housing Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in Norristown, PA. This role provides direct counseling and education to individuals and families on topics such as homeownership, foreclosure prevention, rental housing, and budgeting. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting client intake and assessments, developing and documenting individualized action plans, and providing one-on-one and group counseling sessions. The Housing Counselor will maintain accurate case files, prepare reports for internal and HUD-related requirements, and coordinate referrals to community resources. The role also involves delivering workshops, staying current on housing regulations and programs, collaborating with partner organizations, and supporting outreach efforts to promote Genesis Housing’s services.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in Housing Counseling and familiarity with foreclosure prevention, including experience supporting clients through Foreclosures.
• Certified Housing Counselor credential or eligibility and commitment to obtain certification within a defined timeframe.
• Knowledge of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations, standards, and reporting requirements.
• Strong Budgeting and financial counseling skills, including the ability to help clients develop and follow realistic spending plans.
• Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills, including proficiency with standard office software and data entry systems.
• Ability to work on-site in Norristown, PA, manage a caseload independently, and collaborate effectively within a small team environment.
• Previous experience in social services, housing nonprofits, community development, or related fields; relevant associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
