Description

Under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping and Laundry Supervisor, the Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning resident rooms and maintaining both interior and exterior areas of the facility. This role plays an essential part in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain resident rooms, offices, and common areas, including vacuuming, dusting, wiping, mopping, and polishing. Ensure resident rooms are safe, comfortable, and well-maintained, and that personal belongings are safeguarded. Promptly clean spills, soiled areas, and other conditions as observed or directed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by strictly following procedures related to cleaning agents, hazardous materials, and equipment. Properly store supplies and equipment, adhere to Universal Precautions and infection control standards, and follow all isolation, fire, safety, and sanitation policies. Immediately report any hazardous conditions or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Attend orientation and required in-service education programs in accordance with state and facility requirements.
  • Understand, comply with, and promote all policies regarding residents’ rights.
  • Report all incidents and accidents in a timely manner. Follow established cleaning schedules and coordinate daily housekeeping services with other departments as needed.
  • Ensure housekeeping equipment, supply carts, and materials are properly maintained. Verify that lighting is in proper working order and assist with heavy lifting as requested.
  • Perform floor care duties such as stripping, waxing, and buffing floors as directed. Move and replace furniture and clean storage and exterior areas as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to interact positively with residents, families, and regulatory agencies, and work collaboratively with employees at all levels.
  • Must be able to maintain consistent attendance and be willing to work long or irregular hours, often under pressure.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions necessary to perform job duties effectively.
  • Must comply with all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the use of mechanical devices):
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, and lifting.
  • Adequate fine and gross motor coordination to carry out required tasks.
Work Environment
  • Long-term care facility setting.
  • Exposure to residents with varying levels of care needs.
  • May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
