Position Purpose

The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is seeking an enthusiastic, detail‑oriented Housekeeping Shift Supervisor to support our facilities team and help ensure every space is performance‑ready, safe, and welcoming for artists, audiences, and staff. This is a working role that oversees the cleanliness and upkeep of our world‑class venue, provides work direction and support to housekeeping staff, and takes pride in maintaining an exceptional environment for artists, audiences, and employees alike.

The ideal candidate will have experience in cleaning, along with a proven track record of leading and motivating a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, and basic maintenance of cleaning equipment is a plus. This role is a 40‑hour per week position who will initially work primarily nights and weekends.

Key Performance Areas
  • Uphold the Ordway’s high standards of cleanliness and presentation by maintaining a safe, spotless, and welcoming environment through the use of proper cleaning techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Housekeeping Manager to coordinate daily operations, communicate event needs, and ensure appropriate staffing and resources are in place.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team to complete daily cleaning routines and assigned projects efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Maintain exceptional cleanliness across all areas of the facility, including the Music Theater, Concert Hall, lobbies, dressing rooms, and both public and back‑of‑house restrooms.
  • Perform exterior maintenance tasks such as sweeping, power washing, removing litter, and ensuring that all entryways and access paths create an inviting first impression.
  • Support special events by completing unique cleaning and setup tasks that meet the specific needs of each performance or activity.
  • Provide work direction for the Housekeeping team, aligning daily operations with the Ordway’s mission and goals while ensuring outstanding service and facility readiness.
  • Foster a welcoming and professional atmosphere for artists, staff, and guests throughout the theater.
  • Supervisory experience is required; the position involves leading a team and promoting a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of cleaning equipment is a plus.
Other Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous managerial experience in housekeeping is required.
  • Excellent independent decision making is necessary.
  • Supervisory experience, or providing others with work direction, is required.
  • Must be comfortable using a walkie‑talkie to communicate.
  • The ability to lift 50 lbs., with assistance.
  • The ability to bend, move quickly up and down stairs, crouch or stoop, crawl, work in small spaces, and walk.
  • Ability to operate following equipment: carpet extractor, vacuum, floor scrubber, snow broom and other building maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards including General Duty Standards, Hazardous Communications Standards, Occupational Noise Exposure, Personal Protective Equipment, Lockout/Tag Out, and Blood Borne Pathogens a plus.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and ability to learn new software such as When2Work scheduling software and Paychex Payroll system is also a plus but not required.
