Big Sandy Lodge & Resort in Minnesota is seeking a Lead Housekeeper to coordinate daily housekeeping operations and uphold our cleanliness and safety standards for guests and public areas.

You will supervise shifts, train staff, inspect rooms, manage room status with the front desk, and assist with supplies and inventory to prevent shortages.

Two years of housekeeping experience and prior lead or supervisory experience are preferred; excellent organization and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be available to work a flexible full-time schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation standards, chemical safety, room-inspection practices, and standard housekeeping equipment.
  • Ability to organize daily work, prioritize room needs, communicate assignments clearly, and adjust quickly when occupancy or staffing changes.
  • Basic computer, email, and recordkeeping skills; experience with hotel property-management or work-order systems preferred.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE
Supports the daily operation of the housekeeping department by coordinating team assignments, inspecting guest rooms and public areas, monitoring linen and supply levels, and helping maintain the hotel's standards for cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction. The Lead Housekeeper works alongside the team when staffing or operational needs require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist management with preparing daily schedules, room assignments, coverage plans, breaks, and shift adjustments based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, and staffing levels.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and support to housekeeping team members; help train new employees on cleaning standards, safety practices, equipment use, and department procedures.
  • Inspect cleaned guest rooms, public areas, linen closets, carts, and storage areas for cleanliness, presentation, safety, and compliance with established standards; communicate corrections promptly and respectfully.
  • Update and communicate room status information accurately so rooms can be released in a timely manner, coordinating priorities with the front desk and operations team.
  • Identify maintenance deficiencies, safety concerns, damage, and out-of-order equipment; submit maintenance requests with clear details, follow up as needed, and elevate urgent issues immediately.
  • Monitor linen, guest amenities, cleaning chemicals, and housekeeping supplies; maintain accurate inventory counts and assist with linen and supply ordering to prevent shortages and control waste.
  • Maintain organized housekeeping closets, carts, keys, equipment, and storage areas; help ensure supplies are properly labeled, secured, and rotated.
  • Clean guest rooms, public areas, and other assigned spaces with the team when short staffed, during high occupancy, or whenever needed to support timely completion of department responsibilities.
  • Respond professionally to guest requests and concerns, resolve issues within authority, and notify management when additional assistance is required.
  • Promote a safe workplace by following chemical-handling instructions, personal protective equipment requirements, key-control procedures, and all hotel safety and security policies.
  • Support laundry operations as needed, including collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, stocking, and distributing linen.
  • Maintain a friendly, dependable, and professional demeanor and perform other duties as assigned or required by hotel operations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the working lead for assigned shifts. Provides task direction, training, quality checks, and operational feedback. Assists management with attendance, performance, and scheduling information but does not independently make hiring, termination, or disciplinary decisions unless specifically authorized.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to bend, reach, kneel, climb, push, pull, and perform repetitive cleaning motions throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and maneuver a fully loaded housekeeping cart and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and around dust, odors, varying temperatures, and wet or slippery surfaces while following required safety precautions.
  • Ability to visually inspect guest rooms and public areas, including detailed surfaces and areas with varying lighting conditions.
