Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's in Accounting with strong organizational and communication skills, able to work independently and within a team, and proficient in Microsoft Office.

Internal audit also serves as the foundation for developing SDI's next generation of accounting leaders. Many of our accountants begin their careers in internal audit before progressing to roles such as accounting supervisor and eventually controller. This internship is located at the Steel Dynamics Corporate Office located in Fort Wayne, IN. The SDI Corporate Office is seeking three (3) Internal Audit Interns. One (1) intern will intern throughout the Fall 2026 - Spring 2027 season. Two (2) interns will intern in the Summer 2027 season.

Responsibilities

What Are My Responsibilities as an Internal Audit Intern at Steel Dynamics?

• Assist with planning, execution, and reporting of compliance and operational audits and special projects.
• Support evaluations and testing of internal controls to ensure effectiveness and alignment with departmental and professional standards.
• Participate in audit reviews from the planning stage through findings discussions and preparation of reports for management.
• Help prepare and maintain audit documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to audit methodology.
• Contribute to the evaluation of audit results by reviewing relevancy, accuracy, and conclusions.
• Collaborate with the internal audit team to identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen internal controls.
• Gain exposure to all areas of the company by assisting with audits across multiple divisions.
• Interact with managers and supervisors to support discussions on audit findings and recommendations.
• Provide assistance to external auditors as directed by the Internal Audit Department.
