Job summary

Berkshire Health & Rehabilitation Center in Vinton, VA is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff. Working under the Housekeeping / Environmental Services Director, you will ensure rooms and common areas meet high standards to support our commitment of Care Beyond Compare.

Qualifications

• Experience with cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
• Knowledge of chemical handling and safety procedures.
• Experience in healthcare or long-term care housekeeping preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas according to established schedules and procedures.
• Dust, wipe, and disinfect furniture, fixtures, surfaces, and high-touch areas throughout the facility.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in assigned areas on a daily basis.
• Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste in accordance with facility policies and infection control standards.
• Clean and disinfect resident bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, and floors.
• Restock paper products, soap, and other supplies in resident rooms and common areas as needed.
• Mix and use cleaning chemicals and solutions safely and according to manufacturer guidelines and OSHA standards.
• Maintain housekeeping carts, equipment, and supply closets in a clean and organized manner.
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.
• Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and special cleaning requests throughout the facility.
• Follow all facility policies regarding infection control, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous waste disposal.
• Interact with residents, families, and staff in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

What You Need

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

• Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.

• Understanding of proper chemical handling and safety procedures.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established cleaning schedules.

• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
