Under supervision and following established procedures, performs a variety of heavy cleaning duties to maintain the hospital in an orderly, sanitary, and attractive condition for patients, personnel, and visitors.

Responsibilities
- Must have classroom and on-the-job training of floor, carpet, upholstery, waste disposal, operating room and chemical handling procedures and learn proper operation and cleaning of E.S.D. equipment.
- Shampoo carpets, upholstery and refinishes floors following E.S.D. procedures, using manual and motorized devices.
- Dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings and wash window glass throughout the hospital complex using ladders or other safety devices.
- Cleans miscellaneous items such as wastebaskets, television sets, fans, rubber mats, etc.
- Wash and disinfect all sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, showers in hospital lavatories. Services and refills all soap and paper dispensers.
- Wash walls either manually or using mechanical devices.
- Prepare all burn and Radiation (I-131) rooms by laying protective covering.
- Cleans dust, washes and disinfects, from top to bottom, all beds, mattresses, sleeping carts throughout the hospital complex.
- Picks up and disposes of rubbish and soiled linen from patient floors and deposits down chute, transports to laundry or places in rubbish truck as appropriate.
- Removes rubbish from rubbish chute room, transports heavy rubbish via trash carts for disposal of waste, boxes waste when required, boxes chemo waste, makes chemical pick-up when needed. Washes rubbish chute rooms top to bottom with a pressure sprayer. Washes rubbish trucks using the truck washer or manually with a water hose. Performs minor services to trucks such as replace screws and grease wheels. Operates bailer equipment for bailing boxes and transporting recycle totes to trailer.
- Wash or spot clean walls and polish woodwork, all furniture, brass fittings and stainless steel elevator doors, kick plates, etc.
- Remove and transport animal waste and soiled linens to rubbish truck.
- Transport mattresses, office and patient room furniture, including beds, cribs, folding tables, etc. as necessary. May assist nursing personnel in moving beds and patient furniture for various reasons.
- Cleans dirt, snow and salt from sidewalks and entrances to all buildings on the hospital complex using manual or powered equipment tools. Clean entrance mats, apply salt to entrances as needed and assist Facilities Management grounds crew during inclement weather.
- Change cubicle curtains and draperies. Remove and wash window blinds and make repairs to same.
- Cleans, from top to bottom, all construction areas after renovations are completed.
- Required to carry and use a beeper or a two‑way radio upon request.
- Assist supply clerks in supply room or equipment room. Services batteries on all battery operated devices. Make conference room set‑ups for meetings, parties, etc. Perform duties of supply clerks during their absence.
- Takes laundry linen inventory by physically counting pieces of linen and documenting results on appropriate forms.
- May perform Housekeeping Aide I and Laundry Aide II duties as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or group leader.
Minimum Qualifications
- Has the ability to follow instruction and observe safety precautions.
- Has the ability to prepare solutions according to procedure.
- Has the ability to assemble cleaning equipment such as mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, mop buckets and ringers.
- Has the ability to read, write, understand, and speak English, as well as ability to count numbers.
- Has the ability to operate, control and clean motorized and manual equipment required to perform E.S.D. tasks.
- Has the ability to perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Environmental Department and Fleet Risk Control policies and procedures.
- Has the physical ability to lift, carry or push equipment such as floor buffers, wet vacuums, wall‑washing machine, automatic floor‑washing machine, carpet cleaning equipment, rubbish carts and linen carts, transport patients, office furniture, climb ladders and shovel show.
Experience
At least one to three months on the job training plus formal and ongoing classroom training.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Continuous walking, standing, carrying, pushing trash carts weighing up to 400 pounds, stooping, lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, and heavy lifting.
Some exposure to unpleasant odors in the work area, as well as contaminated items and strong cleaning solutions.
Some hazards from improperly disposed needles and glass.
Exposure to all types of weather conditions.
Hazards are minimized with adherence to established safety precautions.
Pay Range
$19.17 – $19.17 per hour.
