Job summary

Riverdale-Rehab-and-Nursing-Center in New York is seeking a temporary housekeeping associate to maintain clean patient and public spaces. You will perform routine cleaning, linen handling, waste disposal, and respond to spills and requests across the care center.

Requirements include at least one year of housekeeping experience, ability to read and write English, and knowledge of cleaning agents and equipment. This on-site role runs 08/03/2026–08/30/2026 with no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in housekeeping.
• Experience with buffing, waxing, and scrubbing.
• Excellent working knowledge of cleaning appliances and their operations and proper use of cleaning agents.
• Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic housekeeping duties including changing sheets, towels, restocking toilet supplies, vacuuming, dusting and rearranging rooms as needed.
• Report and return any guest properties found in the rooms while rendering service.
• Report cases of property damage on the units and resident rooms to supervisor.
• May collect trash/recycling/soiled linen and dispose of trash/recycling/laundry properly.
• May clean patient rooms, public areas, restrooms, offices and ancillary rooms in assigned areas.
• Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and proper operation of cleaning equipment.
• Maintain knowledge relating to sanitation, use of disinfectants, and report hazards and emergencies.
• Respond to housekeeping problems, spills, broken glass, and other incidents.
• Assist with packing resident belongings and laundry management.

Reports to: Director of Plant Operations/ Director of Environmental Services / EVS

Supervisor

OVERVIEW:

Performs floor care and cleaning activities within well established guidelines and

assigned clinical and non-clinical areas to ensure that quality standards, safety

guidelines and customer service expectations are met

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide basic housekeeping duties including changing the sheets, changing and
• arranging the towels, restocking toilet supplies, vacuuming, dusting and
• rearranging rooms as needed
• Report and return any guest properties found in the rooms while rendering
• service
• Report cases of property damage on the units and resident rooms to supervisor
• May collect trash/recycling/soiled linen from the units and for the proper
• disposal of trash/recycling/laundry in an outside/soiled linen barrel container
• May clean patient rooms, public areas, restrooms, offices and ancillary rooms in
• assigned areas.
• Demonstrates a complete knowledge of infection control, isolation procedures
• and proper operation of cleaning equipment.
• Maintains an appropriate level of knowledge relating to matters of sanitation,
• use of disinfectants, and reports any hazardous situations, and responds to
• any hazards and emergency situations.
• Collects and disposes of trash (contaminated or non-contaminated) in an appropriate manner
• Collects and stages soiled linen for pick up
• Work with a team of housekeepers on each shift
• Clean, disinfect and store all equipment at the end of the shift
• Maintain a positive relationship with employees and guests
• Monitor and report on the inventory of cleaning supplies
• Respond to calls for housekeeping problems, such as spills and broken glass
• Collect and remove trash and debris
• Assist with packing resident belongings
• Assist with laundry management, including washing, drying, ironing and sorting
• linen
• Assist with buffing, waxing, and scrubbing
• Report, turn in and log all lost and found items
• Clean upholstered furniture
• Perform detailed deep cleans when required
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least one year of experience in housekeeping
• Experience with buffing, waxing, and scrubbing
• Excellent working knowledge of cleaning appliances and their operations and

• Must be able to read, write and understand the English language

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to

various locations around the care center.

Incumbent may be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and

specimens in working environment.

Incumbent may be required to work extended periods of time at a video display

terminal.

Incumbent may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric, and

deceased patients.

stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.

The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
