Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network, Inc. is seeking a dedicated housekeeping team member to maintain a clean and safe hospital environment at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton. You will perform routine cleaning duties to uphold high sanitation standards for patients, staff, and visitors.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to follow established protocols, and basic computer/phone skills for scheduling and communication. Training on safety and infection control is provided.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Knowledge of equipment such as vacuums and commercial washers and dryers.
• Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Performs basic housekeeping tasks to maintain an aseptic, clean, and attractive hospital environment.
• Spot cleans walls, windows, furniture, and carpets.
• Disinfects sinks, tubs, mirrors, and toilets using proper techniques.
• Maintains supplies of soap, towels, tissue, and other items.
• Makes beds and handles linens distribution.
• Cleans and sanitizes all surfaces throughout the facility.
• Assists with quality improvement and suggests work method improvements.
• Operates cleaning chemicals safely per guidelines.
• Keeps housekeeping carts and vacuums clean and in good order.
• Reports repairs or replacements and follows up to ensure standards are met.

Summary

Cleans and disinfects according to established protocols, utilizing appropriate cleaning equipment. Performs housekeeping services for adolescents, children adults, and geriatric patients. Assists in the overall facility cleaning to ensure that residents are provided with an uncluttered and orderly environment.

Job Duties

• Performs basic tasks according to highly specific departmental policies and procedures in order to maintain an aseptic, clean, and attractive environment for the hospital.
• Spot cleans walls, windows, furniture, and carpets.
• Disinfects sinks, tubs, mirrors, toilets, urinals using proper disinfecting techniques.
• Maintains adequate supply of soap, towels, toilet tissue, and other necessary items.
• Makes beds; sorts and distributes linens.
• Cleans and sanitizes all horizontal and lateral surfaces throughout the facility.
• Offers suggestions to improve work methods or procedures and participates in the quality improvement process.
• Utilizes cleaning chemicals properly and safely in accordance with department guidelines.
• Keeps housekeeping carts and vacuums clean and in good working order.
• Reports repairs or the need for replacements and follows up to ensure that the repairs meet facility standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Less than 1 year
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Knowledge of equipment such as vacuums and commercial washers and dryers.
• Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 1 year Prior housekeeping experience

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
