Job summary

St. Joseph Church in Palmyra, MO is seeking a part-time Housekeeper to maintain the church, rectory, and hall spaces. Weekly duties total 8–10 hours with tasks across entrances, sanctuary, classrooms, and rental areas.

Starting wage is $16.00 per hour; employee pay may be reevaluated at the 6-month mark or January 1st of the following year. Paylocity information and online onboarding are required before start.

Qualifications

• Experience in janitorial/housekeeping work preferred.
• Ability to follow a cleaning schedule for multiple areas.
• Willingness to assist with after-hours rentals and events.

Responsibilities

• Dust, vacuum, and clean main church entrances and assets.
• Maintain vestibule, side entrances, sacristy, altar, pews, and offices.
• Vacuum all church areas including choir loft and cry room; dust as needed.
• Clean or mop rectory areas on alternating weeks as listed.
• Clean kitchens, halls, classrooms, and youth room as required.
• Empty trash and report damages in writing or via email.
• Assist with post-event cleaning and rentals as scheduled.

St. Joseph Church in Palmyra, MO has an opening for a Housekeeper.

Position details are provided below:

Weekly: 2-2.5 hours cleaning the church

• Main entrance is dusted, vacuumed, and doors cleaned. (Vestibule)
• Always leave the glass doors open for ventilation after cleaning.
• Side entrance handicapped area dusted, vacuumed, and maintained.
• Sacristy-Rugs swept and floors swept and dusting area if needed.
• Vacuuming the entire church, choir loft, and cry room. Dust areas and clean glass if needed.
• Altar-Clean the altar area and make sure it is vacuumed and dusted on a regular basis.
• Parodically mop and clean between the pews
• Empty any trash. (Office personnel will maintain literature racks, and recyclables).

During Christmas & Easter we have flowers and decorations that might need extra care, watering, etc.

The St. Joseph Altar Society maintains altar Cloths, corporals, server robes, and vestments.

The church hires a separate carpet cleaning company for the properties.

Rectory

Every other week 2-4 hours of cleaning.

Areas that need to be cleaned, vacuuming, dusting, & light moping.

• Living Room
• Stairs (both staircase areas)
• Kitchen
• Dining Room
• Father’s Bedroom
• Father’s Bathroom
• Bathroom off of the Kitchen
• Laundry room
• Extra Bedrooms and Bathrooms do not need to be cleaned each week, but bathrooms do need to make sure that the toilets are flushed and flush water.

Farischon Hall

4-6 hours of cleaning each week (preferably on Thursdays).

Clean bathroom; men’s, women’s, & handicapped.

• Clean toilets
• Clean floors and surfaces.
• Empty trash and replace toilet paper and paper towels if needed.

Kitchen

• Clean floors and surfaces if needed.
• Oven will need to be wiped down and cleaned occasionally.
• Mop out the walk-in refrigerator and freezer if needed.

Knights of Columbus Room, Classrooms, Youth Room

Clean areas if needed due to high volume traffic or events that take place on the properties.

Empty trash.

Lg. Hall, Hallways, Ramp, & Rothweiler room

• Mop
• Empty Trash
• Wipe Tables down and kitchen area.

Total Cleaning 8-10 hours a week.

Rentals Large Rentals $100.00 per event.

• After rentals on Friday or Saturday night. The hall will need to be cleaned after big rentals.
• The hall can be cleaned after the parties leave after midnight or it can be cleaned before arrival of parishioners or staff at 7:00am.
• Office personnel will give you rental information in advance for your calendar.

All supplies and any damages noticed on properties need to be submitted to the church office in writing or via email for documentation.

Starting wage for this position would be $16.00 hour and employee pay would be reevaluated at the 6-month position or January 1st of the following year.
