HOUSEKEEPER
JOB SUMMARY
Cleansand services rooms, baths, lavatories, if any, and other resident areas. Dusts furniture and equipment. Cleans windowsills,baseboards, empties trash baskets, and arranges furniture in an orderly fashion. Performs a variety of related dutiesin resident areas. Cleansand services assigned areas and equipment; efficient expenditures of soap, polishes and similar supplies; andkeeps nursing facility in clean and orderly manner. Services are performed withinevery department of the facility and are planned with all departments.
EDUCATION
Must beable to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1. Previous experience preferable but not essential.
- 2. Worker receives on-the-job training with supervision.
- 3.Must have some knowledge in theuse of cleaning devices such as brooms, mops, buffers and other cleaning equipment.
- 4. Has an interest in learning, ability to cooperate, and iswilling to work under supervision.
- 5. Must work scheduled hours each week, which mayinclude working weekends and holidays.
- 6. Must have a pre-employment and an annual Tuberculosisscreening examination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1. To execute duties under thedirection and supervision of the Director of Nursesand/or Administrator and Housekeeping Supervisor according to assignment.
- 2. To keep the nursing facility in a clean andsanitary condition in order to providefor the welfare and care of the residents in a healthful environment.
- 3. Must have a genuine interest in working with geriatrics.
- 4. Willingnessto perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis, and perform tasks despite frequentinterruptions.
- 5. Abilityto perform tasks with due consideration for residents in area.
- 6. Initiative and judgment involvedin maintaining assigned area in clean and orderly condition.
- 7. Works under close supervisionperforming simple, standardized tasks.
- 8. Performs other tasks asassigned.
- 9. Attendsrequired staff in-services, meetings, orientation, and continuing education activitiesas required.
- 10. Is aware ofand adheres to Patient’s Bill of Rights and confidentiality of patientinformation including HIPAA regulations.
- 11. Interacts withpatients and family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in anon-judgmental, supportive and calm manner.
- 12. Is aware ofPatient Abuse Reporting Law.
- 13. Participatesas assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive,helpful and enthusiastic attitude.
Functionsrelated to cleaning.
- 1. Dustfurniture with damp cloth or polishing cloth daily; straighten furniture.
- 2. Dust light fixtures outside and inside, dust windowsills, baseboardsand beds, clean all doorvents.
- 3. Empty and wash ashtrays and wastebaskets.
- 4. Drymop floors in residents’ rooms then wet mop rooms, if assigned.
- 5. Clean wash basins, commodes, polish chrome fixtures inbathrooms, wash all mirrors,and spot clean walls.
- 6. Cleanwindow blinds. Clean beds thoroughly. Clean bedside tables in resident’s rooms, dust all shelves, removing ailarticles making sure thorough cleaning is done.
- 7. Clean housecleaning cart. Cleanany equipment used daily.
- 8. Clean all rooms each week.
- 9. Assist with emergency cleaningduring the day as required.
- 10. Mop, wax and buff hallways, living areas, and dining areasas assigned.
Functionsrelated to supplies and equipment:
- 1. Practice economy in using supplies and equipment.
- 2. Dispense supplies according to need.
- 3. Maintain safeguards for the care, storage, and use ofsupplies and equipment.
- 4. Reportto Administrator or DON any supplies or equipment needed, or any broken ordefective equipment.
- 5. See that resident rooms are prepared for new admissions.
- 6. Assist in moving resident within facility.
Functionsrelated to facility supervision:
- 1. Make frequent rounds of total facility to inspect forcleanliness and order.
- 2. Inspect for maintenance and referneeds to maintenance department or Administrator and/or DON.
