Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads in Virginia Beach is seeking a Facilities Attendant to provide exemplary service to members and keep the building clean and welcoming. You will perform cleaning tasks, assist with event setup, and help maintain grounds and equipment.

The role requires physical activity, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and adherence to sanitation practices. Team members may operate cleaning and maintenance tools in indoor and outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
• Abides by all YMCA COVID sanitation practices and standards.

Responsibilities

• Keeps YMCA attractive and clean by following the daily schedule and maintaining the assigned area and equipment.
• Performs cleaning duties such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming; may assist with lawn care and snow removal.
• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Performs light repairs such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and painting.
• Records and reports all needed repairs; carries out directed repairs.
• Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and reports incidents and hazards to supervisor.
• Sets up furniture for events.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide exemplary service to members and prospective members, demonstrating good human relation skills and a willingness to help maintain building and grounds. Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, and other related responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
• May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Position will also include light repairs such as: replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and painting.
• Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
• Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position operates in an indoor and outdoor facility environment and requires regular physical activity to perform housekeeping and cleaning duties.

The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and working at or near ground level. The position may require lifting, pulling, carrying, or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds and may involve the use of ladders or platforms as necessary to perform assigned duties.

The position regularly involves the use of cleaning equipment, tools, and chemical products, including cleaners and solutions in liquid, powder, spray, or aerosol forms. Team members may be exposed to dirt, dust, odors, wet or slippery surfaces, and other conditions associated with cleaning and maintaining YMCA facilities. The role may also require working in narrow or confined spaces and operating cleaning or other motorized equipment as appropriate.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Wage Range: $12.77 - $16.00 hourly

The wage range provided reflects the YMCA of South Hampton Roads’ good-faith determination of the minimum and maximum starting salary for this position.
