The primary purpose thisposition is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with currentfederal, stateand local standards, guidelines and regulations governingour facility, and as may bedirected by the Director of Operations, Housekeeping Supervisor, Manager on Duty, orAdministrator, to assure thatour facility is maintained in a clean,safe, and comfortable manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assure thatwork/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
- Report all accidents and/or injuries to a supervisor or manager no matter how minor they may be. (NOTE: Suchoccurrences must be reported on theshift in which theyoccur.)
- Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in residentliving and/or recreational areas.
- Attend departmental and staff meetings asdirected or called.
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily workassignments.
- Filecomplaints/grievances with a supervisor or manager.
- Participateand assist in departmentstudies and projects as directed.
- Attendand participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-jobtraining programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed.
- Assure thatassigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable,and attractivemanner.
- Assure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures.
- Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing service.
- Report all hazardous conditions orequipment to a supervisor or manager.
- Follow establishedfire safety policies and procedures.
- Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with established sanitation procedures.
- Keep work/assignment areas free ofhazardous objects such asprotruding mop/ broom handles,unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.
- Other(s) that maybecome necessary/appropriate toassure thatour facility ismaintained in a clean, safe, and comfortablemanner.
- Follow establishedsafety precautions whenperforming tasks and whenusing equipment and supplies.
- Assure that equipment is cleanedand properlystored at theend of the shift.
- Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
- Report burned outlight bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights,fluorescent lights, roomcall lights, or any other safety hazards, to your supervisor assoon as practical.
- Assist others in lifting heavyequipment, supplies,etc. as directed or requested.
- Assure that anadequate supply of housekeeping suppliesare maintained in utility/janitorial closetsto perform daily tasks
- Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary ordirected.
- Perform day-to-day housekeepingfunctions as assigned.
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
- Empty and sanitize ash trays daily. (NOTE: Ash traysmust be emptied into appropriate metal containers with self-closing cover devices.)
- Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in residential rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as directed.
- Clean,wash, sanitize and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Assure that watermarks are removed from fixtures.
- Clean windows/mirrors in residential rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
- Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: Assure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior toperforming such duties.)
- Cleancarpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting. If necessary
- Cleanwalls andceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
- Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
- Clean hallways, stairways, andelevators.
- Dispose of refuse into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
- Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
- Assure that work/assignment areas are clean andthat equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times, as well asbefore leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end of the workday.
- Perform terminal cleaning procedures, as instructed, when a resident is discharged and/or transferred to another room/area.
- Discard infectious waste into appropriate containers.
- Maintain the confidentiality of residentinformation.
- Honor the residents’ personal and property rights.
- Turn in all found articles to your supervisor.
- Follow established proceduresgoverning the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
- Be on time to assignments.
- Follow employee dress code.
Qualifications/Skills
- Must be able toread, write, speak, and understand theEnglish language.
- Must possess the ability to make independentdecisions, to follow instructions,and toaccept constrictive criticism.
- Must possess theability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, familymembers, visitors, government agencies personnel, and thepublic.
- Must be aminimum ofsixteen (16) years of age.
- Mustmaintain thecare anduse of supplies and equipment. etc.,and maintain theappearance of housekeeping areas, must perform regular inspections of residentrooms/units for sanitation,order, safety, and proper performance ofassigned duties.
- Must bewilling to work harmoniously with otherpersonnel as well as bewilling to handle residents based on whatevermaturity level at which they arecurrently functioning.
- Must possess the ability toseek out new methodsand principles and be willing toincorporate them into existing housekeeping practices.
- Must be able to followwritten and oral instructions concerning themixture ofcleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, etc.
- Must be able to relateinformation concerning a resident’s condition.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout theworkday.
- Long periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to walk the entire campus.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and theability to work effectively with the residents and other staff.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., more thanfifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to assist in theevacuation ofresidents.
- Is subject tofalls, bums from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions fromdust, disinfectants, etc.
- May beexposed toinfectious waste,diseases, and conditions. etc., including exposure to the AIDSand Hepatitis B viruses.
- May be required to work onweekends and holidays.
- May be required to work onshifts other than theone for which hired.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
