Purpose of the Role
The Housekeeper at N Family School plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children, families, and the school team. This role supports the daily operations of the school by ensuring that all learning spaces, shared areas, and facilities meet the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.
The Housekeeper contributes directly to children's health and wellbeing by supporting infection control practices, maintaining health and safety standards, and ensuring the overall presentation of the school environment is presentable.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Cleaning & Hygiene
- Maintain daily cleanliness of classrooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, and staff spaces
- Clean, sanitize, and restock bathrooms, handwashing stations, and shared areas throughout the day
- Follow infection control procedures and sanitation schedules in line with N Family standards and state licensing requirements
- Safely handle, store, and use cleaning products and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines
- Dispose of waste properly and in accordance with school procedures
- Carry out daily laundry duties as required, including washing, drying, folding, and storing linens and cleaning materials in accordance with school procedures
- Ensure internal and external plants are watered and well-maintained as part of the school's overall environment and presentation
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Support school-wide health and safety standards at all times
- Follow all Health & Safety policies, safeguarding procedures, and state licensing requirements
- Report any hazards, maintenance issues, or safety concerns promptly to the Front of House Manager or School Manager
- Support preparation for inspections, audits, and licensing visits as required
- Support infection prevention practices, including enhanced cleaning protocols related to illness prevention and outbreak response
School Operations Support
- Assist with deep cleaning routines, seasonal cleans, and special event preparation
- Monitor cleaning supplies and notify leadership when restocking is required
- Work collaboratively with the wider school team to ensure smooth daily operations
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times within a school environment
- Receive deliveries and distribute items throughout the school as needed
- Support kitchen cleaning duties in the absence of the kitchen team, in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards
- Assist with the general upkeep and presentation of shared and front-of-house areas to ensure a welcoming environment for families and visitors
Experience
- Previous experience in housekeeping, custodial, or cleaning roles preferred, but not required
- Experience working in a school, childcare, healthcare, or similar environment is a plus
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards
Qualifications
- Must meet all applicable state employment and child care licensing requirements
- Successful completion of all required background checks and clearances, including fingerprinting and child abuse registry checks, as required by state licensing
- Must meet all state health screening requirements, including tuberculosis screening, as required by licensing authorities
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the Housekeeper is expected to:
- Work under the guidance of the Front of House Manager and the School Manager
- Coordinate respectfully with educators and other team members during the school day
- Support school routines in a way that prioritizes children's safety and learning environments
- Occasionally support educators within learning spaces as permitted by state licensing requirements and under the direction of school leadership
- Any interaction with children will occur only as appropriate to the role, in line with safeguarding policies, and under the supervision of authorized school leaders
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and the use of cleaning equipment. The Housekeeper works throughout the school building, including classrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, shared spaces, and outdoor areas, and may be exposed to noise, bodily fluids, cleaning products, and varying weather conditions.
