Job summary

Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is seeking a store associate to process and price hard goods, assist with donations, and maintain a safe, organized workspace. You will sort items by category, price items accurately, and follow store guidelines to maximize value for customers and the organization.

The role requires basic math, computer literacy, and the ability to lift and stand for long periods. Weekend/evening work is required, with opportunities to contribute to charitable activities

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent is desirable; experience considered in lieu.
• Knowledge of collectibles, antiques or specialized items strongly preferred.
• Proficient in computer use including Word, Outlook and internet.
• Ability to count, add and subtract; follow instructions and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Process hard goods (wares, electrical, furniture, books, shoes and accessories) according to store criteria and pricing guide.
• Separate materials into categories (sales, salvage, seasonal) and price identified items when requested.
• Identify items for ecommerce pricing and ensure accurate pricing for customers.

Job description

Accountability:Considered specialist in knowledge of hard goods (wares). Responsible for all duties as assigned by the Store Manager, including sorting wares, examining product for condition, and ensuring the best possible price is listed on each item.Responsibilities & Essential Functions:Product KnowledgeProcesses hard goods (wares, electrical, furniture, books, shoes, accessories). This includes sorting based on store criteria, utilizing pricing guide, minimizing trash, and salvaging as applicable.Separates materials according to category (sales, salvage, seasonal goods).Identifies items that are priced by management, i.e. high value or unique items. As assigned by management, will price identified items.Identifies items that could be sold through ecommerce.Prices items accurately, balances maximizing price with providing a true value to the customer.Time ManagementMaintains productivity as demonstrated by meeting minimum production numbers as established and communicated by management.Calculates and records number of pieces processed.CommunicationHelps in donations or other areas as needed.Participates in special projects related to wares.Responsive and respectful towards others within the organization. Promotes internal and external customer service through effective communication. Displays appropriate behavior (courteous and respectful interactions) with fellow employees.OtherFollows established processes according to Kaizen standards.Consistently follows established safety rules. Reports safety accidents and hazards when known and in a timely manner. Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area. Utilizes the proper equipment and supplies in meeting the safety standards. Maintains workstation supplies. Weekend and evening work required.Sensory and Physical Requirements:Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all functions of the job. Ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds. Use of both hands. Good manual and finger dexterity.
