Job summary

Rogers Behavioral Health seeks a House Supervisor to oversee hospital operations and patient care during assigned shifts. You will coordinate nursing and direct care staff, respond to emergencies, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates have an RN license in good standing, two years in psychiatric care, and supervisory experience. A focus on trauma-informed care and staff mentorship is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred and RN license in good standing.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in psychiatric care with supervisory exposure.
  • CPR certification and aggression-management training within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure policy/regulatory compliance across units and guide staff on patient care.
  • Respond to medical/psychiatric emergencies and manage rapid response activations.

Job description

Summary:

The House Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all hospital operations related to patient care and staff management during assigned shifts at the campus. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and therapeutic care in accordance with facility policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in behavioral health. The House Supervisor serves as a clinical and administrative resource, supporting nursing and direct care staff, responding to emergent patient needs, and acting as the management liaison for hospital departments during non-business hours.

This position requires critical thinking, strong leadership skills to facilitate communication among departments, ensure adequate staffing, and uphold compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The House Supervisor must be able to make critical decisions in high-pressure situations, de-escalate behavioral health crises, and provide direct patient care when necessary. Additionally, the House Supervisor plays a key role in mentoring staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment for both patients and employees.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides oversight of hospital operations during assigned shifts, ensuring smooth coordination between departments.
  • Acts as the administrative representative of the facility in the absence of executive leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements across all units.
  • Serves as the primary clinical resource for nursing and direct care staff, offering guidance on patient care and crisis intervention.
  • Assists in responding to medical and psychiatric emergencies, including the management of rapid response situations and coordination of appropriate interventions.
  • Ensures, staff follow evidence-based practices for behavioral health care and trauma-informed treatment.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed in areas with staffing shortages.
  • Evaluates and adjusts staff assignments based on acuity, census, and competency to maintain quality care and safe staffing levels.
  • Coordinates with leadership to address staffing shortages and arranges coverage as necessary.
  • Responds to and manages behavioral health crises, ensuring appropriate de-escalation techniques and interventions are utilized.
  • Documents and reports critical incidents, including patient safety concerns, staffing issues, and facility operations challenges.
  • Initiates emergency protocols when necessary and ensures compliance with safety procedures.
  • Acts as a liaison between nursing, clinical, and administrative teams to enhance communication and coordination of care.
  • Facilitates the resolution of conflicts or operational concerns that arise during shifts.
  • Monitors adherence to infection control, patient safety, and risk management protocols.
  • Participates in audits, compliance checks, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provides coaching and support to staff regarding best practices and policy adherence.
  • Ensures, patients receive compassionate, patient-centered care in alignment with their treatment plans.
  • Addresses patient and family concerns, escalating issues to leadership as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support nursing services and organizational priorities.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:
  • Associates Degree in nursing required, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. Registered Nurse license by Wisconsin State Board of Nursing is required; license must be in good standing with the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a psychiatric care setting.
  • Previous management/clinical supervisory experience is preferred.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty (30) days of date of hire. Bi-annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date of hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Must be deemed competent to serve as a qualified medical professional (QMP) as outlined in the Medical Staff bylaws of Rogers Memorial Hospital. This essential job requirement is evaluated and potentially reviewed at least annually, based on results of the QMP job competency.
