Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools seeks a School Crossing Guard to monitor crosswalks near elementary schools and assist students in crossing streets safely. The position requires you to stop traffic with a flag and ensure a safe crossing, while supervising students and reporting unsafe behavior.

Training for this role is highly desirable. Hours are determined by building administrator, with a maximum of 2 hours per day, potentially split before and after school.

  • Reports inappropriate student behavior and vehicles that fail to stop when signaled.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Pay Rate:$17.35/hour

Additional Information:Hours per day and work schedule to be determined by the building administrator. Maximum 2 hours per day. May be split between 1 hour before school and 1 hour after school.

Education and Experience

Completion of district training for school crossing guards is highly desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of building policies and procedures related to crosswalk safety.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with building staff.
  • Ability to exercise fairness in dealing with students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work and student relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.

Working Conditions

Works with students in indoor and outdoor settings; physical ability to assist children; may be exposed to infectious diseases and inclement weather.
