Job summary

Spotsylvania County Public Schools seeks student-focused paraeducators to support teachers in self-contained classrooms serving students with autism and related disabilities. You will assist with organization, behavior support, and instructional materials while helping students succeed.

This hourly, part-time position offers flexible scheduling, a focus on collaboration, and opportunities to contribute to a caring, inclusive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associates Degree preferred; two years of experience with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with organization and daily work assignments.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere and support social skills, personal hygiene, and toiletry needs.
• Follow procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups.
• Maintain and organize instructional materials and cumulative files.
• Administer and/or assist with preparing for assessments.
• Use special skills (e.g., sign language) to assist in two-way communication between teacher and student.
• Perform additional non-instructional duties including cafeteria, bus, hall, and office duties.

Job Description

Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking student-focused, dedicatedParaeducators to assist teachers and other professional practitionersby providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, Learning Support and Behavior Support) whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
• Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, toiletry needs/toilet training
• Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
• Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
• Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
• Uses special skills (i.e. sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
• Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty

Education and Experience

Required

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred

• Associates Degree from an accredited college or university
• A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting

Special Requirements

• Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.

Employment Terms

This position is classified as an an hourly support role. The schedule for this position will be considered part-time and structured on an hourly, as needed basis. This position is evaluated annually.
