Job summary

Vistar is hiring a CDL-A Delivery Driver to support America’s food distribution system. You will drive tractor trailer or straight truck across intrastate/interstate routes, ensuring timely, safe delivery and professional interaction with customers and vendors.

The role requires 6 months to 1 year of commercial driving experience, a High School Diploma or GED, and familiarity with onboard electronic logs (PeopleNet) and POD scanning.

Qualifications

• Foodservice distribution industry experience preferred.
• Onboard computer/e-log system experience (PeopleNet) and POD scanner experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections to DOT standards.

• Inspect and secure freight; verify invoices and paperwork for accuracy.
• Unload damaged goods and returns; complete required end-of-shift paperwork.
• Maintain daily logs and hours-of-service compliance; ensure safe delivery processes.

Position Purpose

Food and food service delivery Drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only make sure the customers' products arrive at their destination at their arranged times and in good condition, but they are the face of our company – building lasting relationships with our customers! The CDL‑A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over‑the‑road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive‑and‑drop routes for the purpose of delivering and/or unloading food and food‑related products to customers in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Job Functions

Major Functional Responsibilities

• Perform all required safety check (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.
• Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
• Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Check and complete in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight. Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
• Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times. Unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check‑in and complete necessary paperwork and procedures at end of shift. Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
• Complies with daily record‑keeping and hours of service requirements, adhering to DOT, state, and company policies.
• Upholds overall safety standards and follows guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Required Qualifications

Compensation

$29.84 per hour
