Job summary

Performance Food Group is seeking a CDL-A Driver to deliver food and related products, ensuring on-time, safe deliveries and professional customer interactions. The role requires inspection, paperwork accuracy, and strict adherence to DOT regulations.

You will work as part of a team delivering to customers and supporting the company’s food distribution network. Ideal candidates have 6 months to 1 year of commercial driving experience and familiarity with PeopleNet and POD scanning.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required.
  • 6 months to 1 year commercial driving experience.
  • Foodservice distribution industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with onboard computer/electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
  • Experience with handheld delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
  • Customer service-related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections per DOT regulations.
  • Follow DOT rules and company safety guidelines; report hazards.
  • Check freight load, verify against invoices, and complete required paperwork.
  • Secure tractor, trailer, and freight; unload damaged goods and returns.
  • Maintain daily records and hours-of-service compliance; follow company procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team.

Position Purpose:

Food and food service delivery Drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only make sure the customers' products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition, but they are the face of our company – building lasting relationships with our customers!

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive and drop routes for the purpose of delivering and/or unloading food and food related products to customers in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

JOB FUNCTIONS Major Functional Responsibilities

  • Perform all required safety check (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Check and complete in an accurate and in legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight. Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times. Unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork and procedures at end of shift. Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
  • Complies with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements, adhering to DOT, state, and company policies.
  • Upholds overall safety standards and follows guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience Required

Work Experience:

  • 6 Months - 1 Year Commercial driving experience
  • Foodservice distribution industry experience
  • Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (i.e., PeopleNet)
  • Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (i.e., POD)
  • Customer service-related work experience
