Job summary

Cobb and Douglas Public Health in Marietta, Georgia is seeking a part-time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide para-professional breastfeeding services and support to clients and families. You will assist with classes, log and track breast pumps, and support WIC activities in clinic and outreach settings.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year in a related field, plus experience as a WIC participant who breastfed for six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and one year of job-related experience in a social services-related position.
• Must be a current or former WIC participant who has breastfed a minimum of six months.
• Available to work up to 29 hours per week.
• Reliable transportation and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic breastfeeding education and counseling to clients.
• Assist with WIC prenatal and breastfeeding classes and support groups.
• Maintain caseload and document participant contacts per guidelines.

• Participate in staff meetings and trainings.

Purpose of the Position

Under direct supervision, provides limited para-professional breastfeeding services to clients and their families. Assists with breastfeeding classes for WIC participants. Provides individual, basic breastfeeding education and counseling in the WIC clinic and outside of the WIC clinic. Follows all Loving Support and Cobb and Douglas WIC Guidelines in maintaining caseload and documenting participant contacts. Issues and logs breast pumps within WIC and Loving Support Policy. Participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate. This position works to promote and protect the health and safety of the residents of Cobb and Douglas Counties.

Essential Functions

• Receives and maintains a caseload of WIC mothers
• 2-3 participants per hour worked

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

The ability to translate English to Spanish and Spanish to English orally and in writing is preferred but not required. Previous experience as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. Certificate of completion of Loving Support Breastfeeding Training as recognized by USDA.

Work Conditions & Physical Demands

Inventory Management may require lifting of up to 50 pounds. Fast paced work environment: ability to prioritize and self-manage tasks as needed in office AND home setting. Some travel involving home/hospital visits, trainings, meetings, and outreach.

$18.00 Hourly | up to 29 hours/week |
