Houck Welder/Millwright – Lehigh Valley & Palmyra

Classification: Non‑Exempt

Reports to: Foreman/Superintendent

Job Description: Welder/Millwright responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining industrial machinery, equipment, and systems. They also carry out tasks as directed by the Mechanical Superintendent or Mechanical Foreman.

Essential Functions
  • Demolition of equipment, machinery, or structures
  • Perform quality weld in both shop and field conditions.
  • Must supply personal tools.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Must be able to pass all required safety training required by state and federal agencies.
  • Use of hand and power tools
  • Use of measuring devices
  • Service and customer‑service oriented
  • Comprehension of blueprints, schematics, and specifications
  • Understanding of different materials (S.S., C.S., Al, etc.)
  • Complete tasks independently with supervisory oversight
  • Comprehend and apply safe working practices according to company policy and customer requirements
  • Install, service, and maintain industrial machinery, equipment, and systems
  • Install piping and fluid handling systems
  • Install, modify, and service conveyor systems
  • Build, install, and modify duct systems
  • Steel erection or modification, including mezzanines, platforms, supports
  • Have working knowledge of pipe prep, fitting up, and layout.
  • Commitment to the job, demonstrated by appearance, tools, and personal pride in work
  • Ability to develop material lists and determine equipment necessary for the project
  • Stainless Steel Pipe welding
  • Stainless Steel Sanitary tube welding
  • Ability to layout and fit pipe
  • Structural welding of (S.S., C.S., and AL)
  • Cutting tools and techniques, including oxy‑acetylene torch, plasma, jet‑arc
  • Experience in machine/equipment service and repair (i.e., bearings, drives, shafts)
  • Proficiency in equipment alignment and leveling techniques
  • Equipment operation, including scissors and boom lifts; all‑terrain, shooting boom, and industrial forklifts
  • Ability to work at heights from ladders or work platforms
  • Pipe bending, fitting, threading, and welding
  • Familiarity with ductwork systems and typical installation techniques
  • Operation of service trucks and non‑CDL trucks
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • B e available for overtime and emergency call‑ins
  • Job will require working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Job will require employees to have personal tools with them at all times.
  • Work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all sizes of extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladders by oneself).
  • Perform work at various heights (up to 90'+ exceeding 90') from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other areas.
  • Work in restricted areas (manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, tanks, drums).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, respirator), as required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and shoulders.
  • Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required and night shift.
  • Overtime, and weekend work is regularly available.
Travel
  • Occasional overnight travel
  • Within a 75 mile radius from office with radius pay, daily round trip.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proven experience working in the mechanical industrial field
  • Individual has 5‑10 years' experience or has a knowledge base equal to a person of 5‑10 years
