Job summary

Glendale Community College seeks individuals for a Full-Time Tenure-Track Hospitality Management Instructor. The role covers hotel/lodging, food and beverage, event planning, and tourism, with a focus on equity and student success.

The position is in the Division of Aviation and Technology, with a teaching load of 18 instructional hours per week, five office hours weekly, and involvement in curriculum development, campus committees, and related professional activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher and two years of experience in culinary arts/food technology.
  • OR Associate's degree and six years of experience in culinary arts/food technology.
  • OR the equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in hospitality management services using demonstrations, active learning, and lectures.
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Maintain regular posted office hours accessible to students.
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Assist in curriculum, policies, and procedures development for the program.

Job description

Glendale Community College seeks individuals who are equity-minded leaders, committed to student success and closing equity gaps, to apply for its Full-Time Tenure-Track Hospitality Management Instructor position. This position includes but is not limited to areas such as hotel/lodging, food and beverage services, event planning, and tourism.

This is a full-time, tenure-track classroom teaching assignment in the Division of Aviation and Technology. The current teaching load is 18 instructional hours per week. Members of the full-time faculty will hold five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees is required. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and hybrid format, evening and/or Saturday classes.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in hospitality management services using various teaching methods including demonstrations, active learning strategies, and lectures.
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Maintain regular posted office hours and accessible to students.
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Assisting the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program.
  • Participate in campus governance and professional activities (e.g. committees, scheduling, leadership positions, faculty meetings, etc.)
  • Participate in staff development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
  • Work to achieve the college's Institutional, Program, and Student Learning Outcomes in support of Glendale Community College's Mission Statement.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Any Bachelor's or higher AND two years of experience in culinary arts/food technology,
  • OR any Associate's degree AND six years of experience in culinary arts/food technology,
  • OR the equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Managerial experience in hospitality operations including front office lodging management, food and beverage services, and/or event management.
  • Experience overseeing large-scale events, catering operations, or banquet service execution.
  • Experience building partnerships and participating in local, regional and state activities with industry, community, and external professional organizations, to develop job placement and internships, and promote the Hospitality program.
  • Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
  • Beverage program management experience including wine, spirits, bar operations, and cost management.
  • Administrator or Instructor/Proctor of the National Restaurant Association, ServSafe Manager and/or ServSafe Alcohol training programs, or American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/National Accreditation Board (ANAB) certifications.
Salary, Health And Welfare Benefits

Starting salary is from $72,928 to $100,966 per year depending upon education and experience. Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Glendale College Guild, Local 2276, Collective Bargaining Agreement. Additionally, information regarding health and welfare benefits may be found in Article XI.

Travel Reimbursement
